(The date of marriage is probably wrong and perhaps should be 1938, or perhaps they didn't get around to formalize the marriage officially until 1948. E-mail from Egbert Moné 15 September 2012:
Another thing is that I frequently visited the Netherlands war cemeteries in Indonesia, especially the one in Cimahi-Leuwigajah, near Bandung. At this place I found a "verzamelgraf" of a family Mac Gillavry-Deighton together with children from a Döderlein family. Obviously they have been killed during the bersiap period, but I've always wondered what has happened; do you know?
Answer: Apparently all 4 Döderlein de Win children were massacred at the same time as the Mac Gillavry children of her sister Amalia Albertine nick-named Lydia, who was killed as well together with her husband. Perhaps the Mac Gillavry's and the Döderlein de Win children were staying with the grandparents because Kemanglen was considered “safe”? Susanne Döderlein de Win-Deighton and her husband must not have been at Kemanglen, for she died 4 years later in 1949 after giving birth to 2 more children; her husband remarried an Indonesian lady named Rawah, had several more children and died in Tilburg, Netherlands in 1963 (this per the Cloosterman website).
What a terrible story!
Postscript: I found the memorial crosses on the War Memorial website(Oorlogsgravenstichting). The parents of Susanne and Lydia were staying at 'Kemanglen' as well, for they were murdered on the same day in the same place as their daughter and son-in-law and their grandchildren. I have used the section of Susanne's children on the grave marker as her identifier in the family tree.
