  Oliver J DeJonge, 95, of 114 N Emily St, died at 3:45 pm Wednesday at the Heritage Healthcare Centre, Zeeland, following an extended illness.
  
  Oliver J DeJonge was born Sept 2, 1898, in Zeeland where he grew up and attended school, graduating from Zeeland High School. He received his bachelor's degree from Hope College in 1920 and later received his master's degree from the University of Michigan. A veteran of World War I, he served in the United States Army.
  
  He was employed as a superintendent of Shelby High School and later superintendent of Ludington High School, retiring in 1963. He was instrumental in the founding of West Shore Community College and the junior high school in Ludington was named in his honor.
  
  He was married to Rose Boone and she preceded him in death Feb 13, 1983. The couple moved to Shelby in 1930 and in 1940 to Ludington where they lived since. He was an active member of Community Church of Ludington, a life member of the Mason County Barracks No 40, Veterans of World War I, honorary member of the Ludington Rotary Club and the Mason County Historical Society, a member of Pere Marquette Lodge No 299, Free and Accepted Masons, the Mason County Retired Teachers Association and the National Retired Teachers Division of the AARP.
  
  Surviving are one son, Bud (and Meredith) DeJonge, Grand Rapids; one daughter, Mrs Bertram (Norma Jean) Weening, Farmington Hills; seven grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one niece.
  
  Memorial services for Mr DeJonge will be conducted at 1 pm Monday at the Community Church of Ludington with the Rev William Collins officiating. Burial will be in Zeeland Cemetery.
  
  There will be no visitation.
  
  Memorials may be directed to the Community Church Building Fund with envelopes available at the Alexander-Rye Funeral Home which is in charge of arrangements.
