The last name is variously spelled: van Buwinga, Bauma or Baama. Originally it seems to have been Buingha. There's a grave in Holwerd according to a list of tombs. A Syds van Buainga and an Auck van Stania are burried in the same grave with a Reynts Roorda, death years are 1531 and 1547 none of which seem to appy to the date we have for Auck's demise in 1518. Possibly the death year is wrong that we have for Auck.
From a historcial text about the windmill in Holwerd (Another text on the Tjaarda state in Rinsumageest lists a Syds Bottinga married to a daugther of Worp Tjaerda hence the following may apply to him rather than our Sijds van Buwinga, though thereis probably a relationship somewhere): "During the fighting between the Duke of Gelre and the duke of Saxony, both wishing the mastery of Friesland, some villages were destroyed. Worp van Tyaerda wrote: "In the year 1515 the 22nd day of Februarytworegiments(?) with some 800 men along with citizens of Leeuwarden went to Holwert and burned the village down together with the windmill, for they (the people of Holwerd) were on the side of the duke of Gelre. Their Lord was Syts Bottinga".
"Syds Bottinga was also known as Buwinga. He lived at Bonga, now 21 Stationsweg Holwerd, there are still late middle ages ruins of a stone house vissible there. Syds backed the wrong horse, for Gelre lost it's influence in Friesland when the Duke of Saxony sold Friesland to Emperor Charles Karel V. Syds Buwinga's properties were confiscated and Sythie Humalda became the new owner."
