he lived with his mother at 9990 Eddy St. until 1926. He worked as clerk in various businesses until he became partner with his brother Morris Nathan in 1915 the Goldtree Co, a knitting company.
In 1926, at the age of 43, he moved out of his mothers house into his new residence at 3991 Washington and changed career. He formed a partnership with Edward Mitchell Mitchell-Goldtree, theatrical booking agents.
In 1927 Sydney August opened a live theater in North Beach in San Francisco, which became known as Green Street (Little) Theater at 631 Green St. The theater performed various plays, mostly of a character which was considered racy or raunchy at the time: The Married Virgin and Easy for Zee Zee, both French plays, are two examples. Easy for Zee Zee played for 61 weeks at the Green Street Theater and got Sydney and his performers frequently in trouble with local authorities. He and his actors even got arrested two times. The play was raided in San Francisco and Sacramento, but the producers and actors were acquitted in both places by juries that were out only five and three minutes, respectively.
It is not clear how long Sidney was the manager at Green Street Theater, I believe he was more involved in arranging plays for various Theaters all over California and even in Canada.
