Funeral services were held Friday, February 10 from the Ramsey Reformed Church for Mrs Grace Harms who passed away at her home in Titonka, Tuesday morning, February 7. Rev. William Kroon was in charge of the service, with the BlakeFuneral Home in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Ramsey Reformed Cemetery.
Mrs. Grace Harms, daughter of Henry and Anna Meyers, was born September 27, 1871, in Groothusen, Germany. She grew to womanhood in her native land.
On april 20, 1895 she was united in marriage to John A. Harms in Groothusen. To this union ten children were born, namely Henry P., deceased; Antje, deceased; John K. of Titonka; Anna (Mrs. Fred Onnen) deceased; Jennie at home; Jesse ofBurt; Carl of Titonka; Herman of Titonka; Ralph of Titonka; and Albert of Titonka.
In April 1906, Mrs Harms, her husband, and a growing family arrived in the United States. their first two years in the United States were spent at Alden. They then moved to the farm north of Titonka which is now occupied by the LorenHansen family. They lived on three other farms north of Titonka before moving to the Harms home in town in the fall of 1943. Mrs. Harms lived there 17 1/2 years until the time of her death at 10:15 a.m. on February 7, 1961, at the ageof 89 years, 4 months and 11 days.
She had been affiliated with the Ramsey Reformed Church since 1908 when the family moved to the Titonka community.
Mrs. Harms was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, one sister, one brother, one son and two daughters.
Morning her passing are the 7 living children, 39 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren.
MR. AND MRS. JOHN A HARMS MARRIED 59 YEARS APRIL 20 CELEBRATED ANNIVERSARY
Mr. and Mrs. John A. Harms celebrated their 59th wedding anniversity last week Tuesday, April 20.
John A. Harms and Krasse Meyer were married in Germany. they came to the United States in 1906 and came directly to Iowa. They lived at Alden two years and then came to Kossuth county where they have lived ever since. they lived ondifferent farms in the Titonka neighborhood until about ten years ago when they bought their present home in Titonka and moved to town and retired.
Nine children were born to Mr. and Mrs. Harms, seven of whom are living. there are six sons, all in this neighborhood. They are John A., Jesse, Herman, Carl, Ralph and Albert. Jennie lives with her parents. Two children have passedaway. They (they were Henry P. and Anna (Mrs. Fred Onnen.)
