John Snittjer, for Many Years Promin't Businessman, Dies
Funeral services for John Snittjer, 72, will be held Friday at 2:00 p.m. at the Second Christian Reformed Church preceded by a 1:45 p.m. prayer service at the family home. Burial will be in the Shiloh cemetery. The body will be taken from the Doyen Funeral Home to the church at 11:00 a.m. and may be viewed there until time of service. Rev. John Rubingh of Worthington, Minnesota will be the officiating clergyman in the absence of Rev. Toeset.
Mr. Snittjer, who had been in ill health for some time, passed away early Tuesday morning at his home following a stroke. He was the owner of the Snittjer Grain Company and was also in the livestock buying business.
The son of Mr. and Mrs. S. J. Snittjer, John Snittjer was born December 6, 1890, in Grundy county. He was married to the former Emma Riekena.
Survivors are his wife, also one son, Sherwood, also a foster son Darold Bucholz, and his aged mother, Mrs. Gertie Snittjer, all of Wellsburg, and a sister, Mrs. Gertie Koolman of Clearwater, Florida.

John Snittjer, 71, Buried Friday In W'burg Cemetery
Funeral service for John Snittjer, 71, well known Wellsburg grain elevator operator, was held at 2 p.m. Friday in the Second Christian Reformed church, followed by burial in the Shiloh cemetery.
Rev. John Rubingh was in charge of the service.
Casket bearers were John Krull Jr., Alfred Krull, Harlin Peters, Harry Heikens, Donald Heikens and Evert Heikens.
Special music for the service was furnished by Mr. and Mrs. Leland Luwe, who sang a duet. Mrs. Carl Toeset was organist.
Flower attendants were Mrs. Joe Dimke and Mrs. Harry Heikens.
Mr. Snittjer passed away about 4 a.m. Tuesday, October 30, at his home in Wellsburg. Death was attributed to a cerebral hemorrhage.
Obituary
John Snittjer was born December 6, 1890, on a farm in Shiloh township the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Snittjer.
He received his formal education in a rural school in the Wellsburg district.
On December 6, 1917, he was married to Emma Riekena at the Wellsburg Reformed church parsonage by Rev. William Landsiedel. This union was blessed with one son. After their marriage they lived in Wellsburg for several years and in 1920 they moved on a farm. In the year 1929, they moved back to Wellsburg where they have continued to make their home.
Mr. Snittjer was baptized at an early age in the First Christian Reformed church west of Wellsburg. He made profession of his faith in the Second Christian Reformed church on October 9, 1919.
Mr. Snittjer is survived by his wife, one son Sherwood of Wellsburg, one foster son Darold Bucholz of Wellsburg, his aged mother, Mrs. Gertie Snittjer who is 92, and a sister Mrs. Gertie Koolman of Clearwater, Florida.
He was preceded in death by his father who passed away in 1914.
