Anna Mae (Roger) Rohweder, 75, of rural Gladbrook, died Sunday, March 4, at her home with her loving family at her side. She returned home on Wednesday after spending Tuesday night in the hospital with a pizza party with all of her grandchildren.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 8, at the Peace United Church of Christ in Gladbrook with Rev. Robert Doner officiating. She will be laid to rest in the Crystal Cemetery near Garwin. Visitation will be held from 5-8:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the Peace Church. Born Anna Mae Dettmer on November 6, 1936, near LeGrand, Iowa, she was the youngest of three daughters born to William and Anna (Zitzow) Dettmer. She graduated from the Gladbrook High School in 1954.
On May 24, 1955, she was united in marriage to Roger Rohweder at the Peace Church. They made their home near Gladbrook all of their married lives. She was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ and served on the senior choir, Afternoon Women's Guild (as treasurer), the Westbrook Resident Advocate Committee, American Legion Auxiliary, Gladbrook Women's Club, 500 Marathon Card Club, gave of herself at MMSC as a volunteer and had been employed at Jindrich Meats in Gladbrook, the meat market in Tama and the Uptown Lounge in Gladbrook. She will be fondly remembered for her love of family- especially the grandchildren- traveling, trips to the casino, baking and cooking, and having the tremendous gift of hospitality- always having coffee and cookies for guests at any time. She and Roger traveled to New York, Washington D.C., Nashville, and celebrated their 50th at Lake Okoboji with all of their family. On their Alaskan Cruise, they won the "Newlywed Game."
Left to cherish her memory are Roger, her loving husband of 56 years, three children: Lori Sanderson of Gladbrook, Julie (Brad) Hooper of Conrad, Steve Rohweder at home, four grandchildren: Jason (Paula) Hamann of rural Gladbrook, Jaclyn Sherman of Gladbrook, Jake Hooper of Grundy Center and Katie (Ryan) Rasmussen of Johnston, three great-grandchildren: Ashley, Matt and Jordan; her sisters Delores Osgood at the Villa del Sol in Marshalltown and Caroline Oettchen of Gladbrook, as well as other family and friends.
In death, she rejoined her parents and son-in-law, Kenneth "Chief" Sanderson.
