Lucille DeMann Tuinstra Birth 2 Oct 1908 Kentwood, Kent County, Michigan, USA Death 11 Jun 2004 (aged 95) Martin, Allegan County, Michigan, USA Burial East Martin Cemetery Martin, Allegan County, Michigan, USA Memorial ID 110403809
Lucille, daughter of Peter DeMan and Anna Bishop, was born in 1908 in Kelloggville, which is the name of a historical community and post office located in what was once Paris Township, Kent County in the U.S. state of Michigan. The area is now within the city of Kentwood, south of Grand Rapids. The community was named for Francis William Kellogg, who located the headquarters of his lumbering firm, Kellogg, White & Co., there about 1845. She was very probably named for her maternal grandmother, Lucille Bishop.
In 1910 Luzylia (1 y and 6 months), her father Peter Deman (32 y), her mother Anna (30 y), her siblings William (8 y), Albert (6 y) and Arnold (3 y) lived in Paris Township, Kent County, Michigan, south of Grand Rapids. Lucille's grandparents William and Johanna DeMan lived in 1880 already in Paris Township and very probably her father Peter was born there too about 1877.
In 1920 Lucile (11 y), her father Peter Deman (42 y), her mother Anna (39 y), her siblings William (18 y), Albert (15 y), Arnold (13 y), Foster (8 y), Clarence (6 y), Janette (4 y), Cornelius (1 y and 9 months), all born in Michigan, and her maternal grandmother Lucile Bishop (76 y, born in Holland) lived in Kent County, Michigan.
Lucille DeMann, born in Kellogville, Kent County, south of Grand Rapids, Michigan and residing in Martin, Allegan County, Michigan married on 15 February 1928 in Allegan County, Michigan at the age of 19 years to the five years older farmer Peter Tuinstra, son of Henry Tuinstra and Jennie Teninga, residing in Hopkins, Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan.
Lucille De Mann and Peter Tuinstra lived in July 1928, when their first child, Harold, was born, in Hopkins Township, established in December 1852 and located in the northeastern portion of Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan. The Township covers approximately thirtysix square miles of area and is primarily an agricultural community.
In April 1930 Lucyla (21 y), her husband Peter Tuinstra (26 y, truck farmer), and their son Herald H (1 y, 8 months), lived in Watson County, Allegan County, Michigan. Next door lived her father-in-law Henry Tuinstra (53 y, a truck farmer too) with his wife Jennie and eight children.
Lucille Tuinstra's family couldn't be found in the US Census 1940, especially not in Martin Township, Allegan County, where they lived then.
Her husband Peter Tuinstra died in 1988 at the age of 84 years in Grand Rapids, but resided then in Martin, Lucille died in 2004 at the age of 95 years, still residing in Martin, Allegan County, Michigan.
Lucille Tuinstra, aged 95, of Martin, died June 14, 2004. She was born October 2, 1908, in Kelloggsville, MI, to Peter and Anna (Bishop) DeMann and has spent her life in the Martin area. Lucille married Peter Tuinstra on February 15, 1928, and they were both members of the East Martin Christian Reformed Church. Lucille made the love and happiness of her family her life's work.
