Klaaske Prins (= Prince) was born in September 1849 in the country village of Marrum, municipality Ferwerderadeel, in the northern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, daughter of the 24 years old laborer Egbert Hendriks Prins and Janke Dirks Kloosterman.
On 15 January 1874 she married in the Frisian northwestern municipality Het Bildt the also 24 years old Klaas Leep, who was born in Sint Annaparochie, municipality Het Bildt.
Klaaske and Klaas had in Sint Annaparochie from July 1874 until September 1892 seven sons and one daughter: Anne, Egbertus, Haring, Janke (the only daughter), Hendrik, Douwe, Doeke and Jacob Jan. The latter died in July 1893, 9 months aged.
Their oldest sons Anne (18 y) and Bertus [Egbertus] Leep (16 y), both laborer, arrived on 31 May 1893 on the SS Maasdam at the port of New york, Ellis Island. Their destination is Chicago. Carpenter Klaas (47), his wife Klaaske (46) Leep and their children Haring (16), Janke (13), Hendrik (11), Douwe (9) and Doeke (7) arrived on 15 August 1896 at New York, on the SS Maasdam too. Their destination is Kensington.
Her husband Klaas died in 1910 at the age of 61 years at 10124 Halsted Street, 33th Ward, Chicago.
In 1913 she moved to her sons in Canada. In 1916 Clara Leep (66 y) lived with his son Andrew (40 y, widowed since 1916) and his eight children Nicholas, Harry, Jerry, Tracey, Edward, Clara, Jennie and Mary in or nearby the former tiny Dutch settlement Cramersburg in the southwestern part of the Canadian southern and central province Saskatshewan. In 1920 she moved to Martin, Allegan County, in the western part of Michigan.
In 1930 Clara Leep (80 y) lived with her son Edward Leep (53) and his children Garrett (24), born in Illinois), Antony (21, Illinois), Jane (18, Canada), Fannie (16, Canada), James (15, Canada), Sarah (13, Canada) in Highland, Lake County, in the utter northwestern part of Indiana, adjacent to Cook County and Chicago. In Highland came quite some Dutch settlers after the construction of a railroad.
In 1940 Clara (90 y) was still living with her son Edward (63) in a rented house in Highland Town, Ridge Road, North Township, Lake County, Indiana. In 1935 they lived in the same house. Her son Nicholas and his family was living only a few houses away.
Clara Leep died in June 1941 at the age of 91 years in Highland, 180 Indianapolis Boulevard. Her son Edward declared her death. She resided for six years in Highand and is buried as Bep Leep in the Oak Ridge Cemetery in Lansing, Cook County, Illinois, about 6 miles west of Highland, like the nearby Dutch settlement South Holland and Highland located on the southern banks of the Calumet River.
Beppe is the Frisian word for grandmother; the shortening Bep became obviously her nickname.
