She was born in 1889 as Ytje Dijkstra in the country village Beetgum (in the Frisian language called Bitgum), municipality Menaldumadeel, in the northwestern part of the Dutch northern province Friesland, daughter of the 25 years aged laborer Jelle Dijkstra and Wytske Haitsma. On 26 December 1887 her sister Grietje was born in Beetgum too.
The family Dijkstra emigrated in 1891 to the USA. In 1900 Ida [Ytje] (11 y, born in Holland), her father Jelle Dykstra (37 y, later on called Charles), her mother Wietsche (31 y), her sister Mary [Grietje] (13 y, Holland), her sister Gertie (8 y, Illinois) and her brother Joe (5 y, Illinois) resided in Calumet Township, Chicago city, Ward 34, Cook County, Illinois, USA.
On 13 March 1913 the 23 years aged Edith Dykstra of Chicago married in Chicago, Second Roseland CRC, 10643 Perry Avenue, Rev William Borgman officiating (1911-1919), to the one year older Duke Leep of Cramersburg, Canada, who had Frisian parents too,
Her husband Duke Leep died in 1976 at the age of 87 years in the city of Wayland, in the northeastern part of Allegan County, about 8 miles north of their former residence place in Martin Township. Edith died in January 1986 in Wayland too, at the age of 96 years.

Mrs. Edith LEEP - Wayland, Formerly of Shelbyville, passed away Jan. 22, 1986 at Sandy Creek Nursing Home. Mrs. LEEP was born Oct. 22, 1889 , in Friesland, Netherlands, and had been a resident of the Shelbyville area most of her life. She was a member of the East Martin Christian Reformed Church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Duke in 1976, and by a son, Charles in 1954. Surviving are 6 children and their spouses, Mrs. Winifred BRINK of Martin, Clara and John TALSMA of Shelbyville, Jennie and Kenneth HEIMHOLDT of Jennison, Florence and Harold TUINSTRA of Martin, Clarence and Alyda LEEP of Shelbyville and Dr. Joseph and Alice LEEP of Grand Rapids; one daughter-in-law, Mrs. Ann ADRION of Martin and one brother-in-law, Fred VOSS of Chicago; 26 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews. source: Kalamazoo Gazette Jan 24, 1986

"LEEP - Mrs. Edith Leep, aged 96, of Sandy Creek Nursing Home, Wayland, passed away January 22, 1986 in Wayland. Mrs. Leep was born October 22, 1889 in Friesland, Netherlands. She had been a resident of the Shelbyville area most of her life, and was a member of the East Martin Christian Reformed Church. Friends may call at the chapel today. Funeral Services will be held Saturday afternoon 1:00 at the East Martin Christian Reformed Church. Rev. Harlan Roelofs officiating. Interment in East Martin Cemetery. Memorial gifts may be made to the East Martin Christian School or a charity of your choice.
