Garretson - Justin Frevik, age 86, of Garretson died on Wednesday, June 18, 2008, at Avera-McKennan in Sioux Falls. Funeral services will begin at 10:30 a.m. Monday, June 23, 2008, at Zion Lutheran Church, Garretson. Visitation with the family present will be from 3:00 to 5:00 p.m. Sunday at the Minnehaha Funeral Home, Garretson.
Justin was born on November 27, 1921 in Edison Township west of Garretson, South Dakota to Edward and Henrietta (Eide) Frevik. He grew up on the farm and was baptized at Norway Lutheran Church and confirmed at Zion Lutheran Church. He graduated from Garretson High School in 1940. In 1945, he moved with his family to a farm north of Sherman and farmed with his dad.
In 1954, Justin married Lorena Hanneman. The coupled had three children and continued farming until Lorena´s death in 1964. On August 7, 1965, Justin married Ann Renken. They farmed north of Sherman until moving into Garretson in 1985. Justin continued farming until 1993, at which time he began working for Greenview at the rest area near Beaver Creek. He worked there until March of 2007, when his health would no longer allow it. Justin lived in Garretson until February 2008, when he and Ann moved to Orchard Hills in Dell Rapids.
Justin was a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He helped build the new church building and served on the church council, stewardship committee and as an usher. He was a board member of Highland Township and the Split Rock Clinic, for which he served as president. Justin was a true farmer and still enjoyed looking at the crops around the area. He loved to go for coffee and, in his earlier years, took yearly family trips around the country to various national parks. He followed all of his grandchildren´s activities and took pride in everything that he did.
Survivors include his wife, Ann, Dell Rapids; his children, Alan (Brenda) Frevik, Garretson, Sharon (Mike) Przeslawski, Bloomington, MN, Jeanine (Kevin) Schnieders, Dell Rapids and Arlene (LeRoy) Groenewold, Rushmore, MN; nine grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; seven great-great-grandchildren; and a brother, Clair (Shirley) Frevik, Sioux Falls.
Justin was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, Lorena, a grandson, Tucker Alan, and four siblings, Ralph, Ansgar "Ed", Leif "Elmo" and Esther Lucille.
