"Folkert Heije Poppens Birth: Jan. 6, 1897 Chancellor Turner County South Dakota, USA Death: Nov. 5, 1967 Lincoln County South Dakota, USA

While visiting at the home of his brother, William, northeast of town on Sunday afternoon, Folkert passed away suddenly. He was sitting in a chair talking to members of the family when he suffered a heart attack and succumbed moments later.

Folkert was born on a farm in Turner county, near Chancellor to Heije and Dena (Huisman) Poppens. When he was six weeks old the family moved onto a farm five and a half miles north of Lennox. There he was reared, attended Schoffelman school and assisted his parents with farming operations.

Folkert married Grace Mathilda Mundhenke on Jan. 14, 1925 in Turner County, SD. Donald Sylvester, Evelyn, Lenora, Edwin and Arlene were born to this union.

For two years the couple farmed near Chancellor and then moved to their own farm seven miles north of Lennox. There he continued his farming operations for 25 years and in 1950 he and his wife retired and took up their residence in Sioux Falls.

He was a member of Ebenezer Presbyterian church, until moving to Sioux Falls when he transferred to First Reformed church there.

He was preceded in death, by his parents; three brothers, Peter, Henry and Robert; one sister, Swannie (Mrs. Wm. Mundhenke), and a foster sister, Minnie Raker.

Folkert attained the age of 70 years, 9 months and 30 days.

He is survived by his widow; three daughters, Mrs. Wilmer Buse of Lennox, Mrs. Marion Moulder of Sheldon, IA and Mrs. Willard Roosenboom of Sioux Falls; two sons, Donald and Edwin, both of rural Lennox; 20 grandchildren; three brothers, William and Leonard, both of rural Lennox, and Siefert of Aplington, IA.
