Clyde F. Manges, 86, of Lexington, died January 30, 2005. He left his home Sunday to be with Jesus. Born December 14, 1918, in Somerset County, Pennsylvania, he was the son of Grant and Annie Manges. Clyde left high school in the 11th grade to work in the coalmines to help support his family. His high school diploma, of which he was extremely proud, was not obtained until after he moved to Mansfield. After working in the mines, he worked in the steel mill in Johnstown, Pennsylvania before moving to Mansfield in 1954. He began working for Burkhart Building Center, starting as a general laborer and advancing in the carpentry trade, ending his career as head carpenter of the finish crew. His work ethic, passed on to his sons, was always one of 'if the job is worth doing, it is worth doing right.' A member of Pleasant Valley Baptist church, he enjoyed playing euchre at Lexington Senior Citizen's Center, Ontario Senior Center, Logan Place and in Bellville. He married Verna L. Hinson on June 16, 1940, and she preceded him on their Heavenly journey on January 3, 2000.
Surviving are two sons and daughters-in-law, Robert and Becky Manges of Mansfield, Wayne and Dorinda Manges of Lexington; a brother, William Manges of Homestead, Pa.; sister, Phyllis Joel of Akron; four grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren. In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and two brothers.
Friends and family may call at the Diamond Street Home of Wappner Funeral Directors, Wednesday, February 2 from 5-9 p.m. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at the funeral home, officiated by Rev. David J. Pound and Rev. Donald Cox. Internment will follow in Mansfield Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Berean Baptist Church or Crossroads Community Church.
