Funeral services for Harold A. Eisenhauer, 83, will be held Friday, April 5 at 1:30 p.m. at the First Congregational Church in Buffalo Center. Rev. David Langer will officiate. Casketbearers will be his grandchildren: Jeffrey Giesman,Edward Giesman, Cynthia Giesman, Amy Eisenhauer, David Eisenhauer, Eric Eisenhauer, Adam Eisenhauer, Tina Eisenhauer, Tara Eisenhauer and Samantha Eisenhauer. Interment will be in the Graceland Cemetery in Buffalo Center. Harold passedaway Monday, April 1, 2002 at the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. Winter Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Harold August Eisenhauer, son of August and Helen (Berschman) Eisenhauer, was born October 23, 1918 in Germania (Lakota). He received his education in Buffalo Center. He joined the army in 1942 and served during World War II in theEuropean Theater as a staff sergeant. He received the Purple Heart and the Normandy Invasion Medal. He was united in marriage to Pauline Boehm on July 3, 1943 hi Santa Anna, California. After returning from the service he moved back toBuffalo Center to farm northeast of town. In 1977 they moved to Buffalo Center. He was a member of the First Congregational Church and served on the church board. He also served on the board of the Cooperative Oil Company. He was a memberof the VFW and the American Legion for 52 continuous years. He loved farming until his retirement. He was a devoted husband, father and grandfather and cherished tune spent with his family. After retirement, he especially enjoyed"coffee tune" with his good friends.

Harold is survived by his wife of almost 59 years, Pauline, of Buffalo Center; his children: Royce and his wife, Carolyn, of Lakewood, New York; Sharon and her husband, John Giesman, of Buffalo Center, Rodney and his wife, Linda, ofAppleton, Wisconsin; Steven and his wife, Heidi, of Rochester, Minnesota; Bruce and his wife, Lynn, of Evans, Colorado; ten grandchildren; one great-grandson; one brother, Jack Eisenhauer; four sisters: Ann Abels, Cora Abels, VelmaEisenhauer and Dorothy Caltvedt, all of Buffalo Center. He was preceded in death by his parents" <>

"Harold Eisenhauers' Selected As Legions' G. I. Farm Family

Annually, American Legion Posts throughout Iowa choose 1 GI farm family as their representative for the Title of GI Legion fanner of the year County, District and State contests are held at which judges' consider the qualifications andactivities of all the contestants and the resulting winner then becomes the state champ and among - other prizes and awards is granted a trip with honors to the International Livestock Show at Chicago for himself and wife.

This year Winnebago Post No. 21 has chosen Harold Eisenhauer who farms 160 acres that lay 3 1/4 north and 2 miles east of Buffalo Center. He has rented this farm since 1947 and this year has an additional 80 acres rented. He has in cropthis year 115 acres of corn, 50 of oats, 15 in soybeans and the rest in pasture and hay land.

His stock consists of 5 Hoistein milk cows, 19 feeding steers 40 pigs, 600 chickens and 250 hens. He has done a remarkably fine job both as a grain and stock farmer and the Veterans are to be congratulated on choosing him as their ideal.The family attend; the Congregational church here and Harold has been an active Legionnaire for three years,

"on (4) and Rodney who will be 2 in September. Mrs. Eisenhauer attended the Lakota school while Harold was a Buffalo Center graduate. He served overseas in Germany in World War II as a member of the 331st Infantry of the 83rd Division.Leaving the States on May 14th 1944 he returned after service in Germany sometime in November, 1945.

Nominees had-to be submitted to the County Commander on or before the 3rd of July and Commander Carman will submit these to the County USD A council who will pick the Winnebago County winner prior to July 17, 1953. County winners will besubmitted to the District Legion Commanders on or before Aug. 10 for judging. The nine district families chosen will all be two day guests of the Iowa State Fair Board at Des Moines and the Iowa State Fair on Aug. 31 and Sept. 1st. Herethe State winner will be picked and given a trip to the International Stock Show for the husband and wife. The Contest is sponsored by the Iowa State Fair Board, Radio Station WHO and the American Legion.

The Tribune joins with other well-wishers in the trust that this fall we may be able to announce that the Eisenhauers are the State GI Farm Family of Iowa." <>
