"Lauren and Goldie Thompson Family ... Lauren Thompson, son of Reat and Eva Thompson, was born at Waterloo, Iowa on December 3, 1904. He moved with his parents to Buffalo Center in 1916. At the Methodist parsonage, on January 1, 1925, Lauren married Goldie Steele of BuffaloCenter. Goldie was born at New Providence, Iowa on May 4, 1906 and was the daughter of Rollie and Cora Steele.
The first years of their marriage they lived with Lauren's parents on the Ben Hook farm south of Buffalo Center, and did general farming in the Buffalo Center, Thompson, and Lakota area. In 1938 they moved to a farm west of Lakota wherethey lived until Lauren's death in September of 1984. Goldie then moved to the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. ... Funeral services for Lauren E. Thompson, 79, of Lakota were held Monday morning, September 10 at 10:00 a.m. at the Evangelical Reformed Church in Ledyard with the Rev. Alvern Kinrade officiating. Interment was in Olena Mound Cemetery withWinter Funeral Service in charge of arrangements. Mr. Thompson died Thursday, September 6 at his home.
Casketbearers were David Thompson, Anthony Vodraska, Duane Wempen, Royce Harringa, Richard Thompson and Barry Thompson. Mrs. Cheryl Baumann was the organist and music was by Merlin and Mary Harringa.
Lauren E. Thompson was born December 3, 1904 to Heat and Eva (Alcock) Thompson at Waterloo, Iowa. At about 12 years of age, the family moved to a farm near Buffalo Center.
On January 1, 1925 he was married to Goldie Steele at the Methodist parsonage in Buffalo Center. They farmed in the Buffalo Center, Thompson and Lakota area. They retired from farming in 1969 and have spent the past ten winters atHarlingen, Texas. He was a life-long member of the Methodist Church. He enjoyed going fishing, working in his garden and family get-togethers. To this union five daughters and seven sons were born.
Survivors include his wife, Goldie; sons, Everett, Ledyard; Raymond, Waterloo; Howard, Bancroft; Eldon, Garner; Glen, Simi Valley, California; Roger, Reeds Spring, Missouri and Larry, Lakota and daughters, Mrs. George (Irene) Wempen and"Mrs. Melvin (Ruth) Harringa, both of Buffalo Center; Mrs. John (Dorothy) Vodraska, Spencer;. Mrs. David (Janice) Winter, Lakota, and Mrs. Marion (Sharon) Burt of Swea City; 48 grandchildren and 36 great-grandchildren; one sister, Mrs.Robert (Naomi) Kuyper, Waterloo.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Vernelle; a son, Harold two grandchildren and one great-grandchild." <>
