Dolores Jean Bode was born on May 22, 1928 in Titonka, Iowa to William and Teda Tjarks Welhousen. She received her early education in country school in German township, and graduated from Titonka High School in 1945. Dolores earned herteaching certificate from Waldorf College in Forest City, Iowa. She taught country school near Titonka, Maple Hill and Lakota, Iowa. On July 3, 1952, Dolores was united in marriage to Harold Bode at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona,Iowa. The couple settled in San Diego, California, where Harold was serving in the U.S. Navy. During this time, Dolores was school secretary at El Toyon School in National City, California. The couple moved to Algona in 1955, where theyfarmed in the Plum Creek area north of town. She returned to teaching and taught elementary school at Wesley, and second grade and junior high science at St. Cecelia School in Algona. Over the years, Dolores continued her education atWartburg, Drake, Mankato State, and Buena Vista.
Dolores was a member of St. Cecelia Catholic Church, where she was active in C.D.A. and New Dimension. She belonged to Plum Creek Homemaker's Club and Farm Bureau Women's Association, where she held various offices over the years. Shealso enjoyed volunteering for her children's various school and 4-H activities. Dolores and Harold served together on the Garrigan Music Board and, in later years, delivered Meals on Wheels. In 1991, they retired and moved into Algona.Her husband Harold preceded her in death on August 13, 2005.
Throughout her life, Dolores had a love of learning and finding order for all things. She took time to research topics of interest and enjoyed exploring the various places she visited. Her attention to detail always showed through in herbaking, gardening and various house projects. She marveled at the wonders of nature, and also appreciated music and other fine arts. Her greatest love was her family, as she will always be remembered for putting others before herself.
Dolores died on Wednesday, November 15, 2006, at Mercy Medical Center in Mason City, Iowa surrounded by her family. She was 78.
She is survived by her children, Steven Bode and wife Sandra of Algona, Iowa; Julie and husband LaMonte Gray of Adams, Minnesota; and Bonnie and husband Benjamin Ihde of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan and Ashley Bode; Kelly, Paxtonand Olivia Gray; Rachel and Lauren Ihde; step-grandchildren, Jason O'Donnell, Heather O'Donnell Curley; Andrew, Benjamin and Emily Gray; sisters, Anna Schutjer and Gertrude Sleper, both of Titonka, and her brother, John Boehm and wifeAmy, Clear Lake, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Harold; brothers, Wilbur and Herman Welhousen and sisters, Jeanette Krause and Ella Beenken." <>

Obituary
Harold Eugene Bode was born December 20, 1928, in Algona, Iowa, the son of Harry and Ella Zeigler Bode. He grew up in Algona and attended school at St. Cecelia's Academy, graduating in 1947. Harold went on to attend Iowa State Universityfor two years and while there was in the ROTC Program and toured with the Iowa State Singers. He enlisted in the United States Navy in 1951 and was stationed on Coronado Island in San Diego. He served as a Teleman 3rd Class with TopSecret clearance in Communications during the Korean War.
On July 3, 1952, Harold was united in marriage to Dolores Welhousen at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona. After their marriage the couple lived in San Diego until Harold was honorably discharged and they moved back to Algona. Haroldbegan farming and continued until retiring in 1991, although he never really quit farming.
Harold enjoyed spending time with his family and grandchildren, especially on their yearly fishing trip; hunting geese and pheasant, playing piano, traveling, woodworking and was an avid sports fan. He was a member of St. Cecelia Parishwhere he was one of the original 12 lay distributors of the Holy Eucharist, on the Finance Committee and on St. Cecelia's first School Board; member of the Knights of Columbus Council #952, was on the ASCS Committee, FHA Committee andpast president of the Pikeside Electric Committee.
He is survived by his wife Dolores of Algona; son, Steve Bode and wife Sandy of Algona; daughters, Julie and husband LaMonte Gray of Adams, Minnesota; Bonnie and husband Benjamin Ihde of Urbandale, Iowa; grandchildren, Ryan and AshleyBode; Kelly, Paxton and Olivia Gray; Rachel and Lauren Ihde; step-grandchildren, Jason O'Donnell, Heather O'Donnell Curley; Andrew, Benjamin and Emily Gray; brother, Floyd Bode and wife Marjorie of Algona and numerous nieces and nephews.

ALGONA Harold Eugene Bode, 76, of Algona, died Saturday (Aug. 13, 2005) at the Kossuth Regional Health Center in Algona.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday at St. Cecelia Catholic Church in Algona with Father Paul Eisele officiating.
Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery with Military Rites provided by American Legion Hagg-Turner Post No. 90 and V.F.W. Post No. 2541 both of Algona.
Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m. today at the Garry-Roberts-Murphy-Schaaf Funeral Home in Algona, with a prayer service at 7 p.m., followed by a Knights of Columbus Rosary.
