Dick Steen was born in Germany on January 28, 1863; he came to America and worked at Wellsburg, Iowa. Henrietta Kaiser was born in Germany on January 7, 1875 and came with her parents to America. Dick and Henrietta were married at Wellsburg on March 1, 1895. They moved to Buffalo Center in 1903 and farmed southeast of town. Their children were: Minnie, Maggie, Jennie, George, Fannie, Ida, John, Dickie, Louie, and William. Dick died on October 24, 1942 andHenrietta on August 19, 1975. ..."

"... George Steen was born near Wellsburg on June 22, 1901. He married Minnie Beekman on February 27, 1929; they farmed south of Buffalo Center. One son, Gerald, was born on December 19, 1934 and lives at Jesup, Iowa; Gerald married Barbara Popkes on July 26, 1959 and they have a son, Dietrich, who works in California. Minnie died on October 14, 1957. In 1958 George married Adeline Buseman. Adeline died on February 9, 1979 and George died on November 27, 1986. ..."

"Funeral services for Henrietta Steen, centenarian, of Buffalo Center were held Saturday morning, August 23, at 10:30 a.m. from First Reformed Church in Buffalo Center with Rev. Henry Van Der Scaaf officiating. Winter Funeral Services was in charge of arrangements. Intermane was in Graceland Cemetery.
Mrs. Alroy Krull was the organist and Gary Meyer, the soloist. Pallbearers were Arlan Steen, Lowell Steen, Gerald Steen, Darrell Steen, Herman Walters and Raymond Meinders.
Henrietta Kaiser Steen was born on January 7, 1875 to John Kaiser and Whipka Goldenstein at Emden, Ostfriesland, Germany. She, with her parents moved to America in 1890 and settled at Wellsburg, Iowa. On March 1, 1894 she was united in marriage to Dick Steen at Wellsburg with Rev. Daniel Sheafer officiating. This union was blessed with 10 children-5 daughters and five sons.
On March 1, 1903 the family moved to the farm site now occupied by her son, Louie Steen. In 1935 she and her husband and their youngest son, Bill, moved to farm site now occupied by the Bill Steen family. Her husband, Dick, died in 1942 but she continued on the farm till 1947. For a period of 15 years from 1947 til 1962 she lived in a small house in south Buffalo Center."

"In 1962 she had the misfortune of breaking a hip. This made her an invalid and she was cared for alternatively for a period of four years in the home of her daughter, Fannie, and her son, Bill. From 1966 until a week before her death she was cared for in the home of Mr. and Mrs. Bill Steen. Mrs. Steen was not only unable to walk since her fall in 1962 but she was blind and of late lost her hearing.
She always loved music and was known for singing songs in German. In fact she still sang while in the hospital.
Henrietta Steen had the priveldge of celebrating her 100th birthday on January 7 of this year.
Mrs. Steen was a member of the First Reformed Church, Buffalo Center, for almost 70 years. She faithfully attended until she broke her hip in 1962.
Mrs. Steen passed away on Tuesday morning at about 8:10 at the local hospital. She had reach the unusal age of 100 years, 7 months and 12 days.
She is survived by five children, namely, George, Fannie Risius, John, Louice, and William; also survived by 13 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Preceding her in death were her husband, Dick; four daughters and a son, namely, Ida, Jennie Maggie Meinders, Minnie Walters and Dick; one grandchild and one great-grandchild also preceded her in death."
