Diedrich "Dick" Wempen was born on May 24, 1875 in Neuenburg, Germany, the son of John and Meta (Lubben) Wempen. While in Germany he worked in a factory where he lost two toes in an injury. As a young man in his early twenties, he cameacross the big water to America, in 1898.
On August 21, 1906 Dick married Grace Adams of Buffalo Center. Grace was born on March 6, 1883 in Grosmidlum, Germany, the daughter of Adam and Moederke (Westendorf) Adams. When she was about a year old the family moved to America.Dick and Grace made their first home near Little Rock, Iowa; in 1912 they moved with their children - Amos, Margaret, and William - to a farm in Winnebago County two and a half miles north of Buffalo Center. ..."

Music was provided by organist Norma Tapper and a trio consisting of Yvonne Rippentrop, Donna Dreesman and Wilda Ubben. There was also congregational singing. Casketbearers were Rollin Wempen, Mark Beenken, Daniel Beenken, Duane Wempen,Dr. David Grimes and Darrel Sonnenberg.
Margaret Mae Sonnenberg was born November 22, 1908 in Little Rock, Iowa to Dick and Grace (Adams) Wempen. At the age of three Margaret moved with her parents to Buffalo Center where she attended school and graduated from high school.Margaret then attended teachers training school and taught country school for eight years.
November 16, 1935 she was married to Edward J. Sonnenberg in Blue Earth, Minnesota. The couple moved to their farm north of Titonka where they lived until retiring and moving into Titonka in 1969.

"Margaret continued to live in the house until her death on Friday, April 9, 1993 at the age of 84.
She was a member of Ramsey Reformed Church, rural Titonka and taught Sunday School there for many years. Before Ed died, they enjoyed traveling as they took many bus tours together. Margaret enjoyed crossword puzzles, embroidering,working in her garden and with flowers.
She is survived by her son Russell and wife Audrey Sonnenberg of Forest City, her daughter Elaine and husband Elmer Ricks of Titonka, one grandson, Daniel Ricks and wife Joan of Thief River Falls, Minnesota; two great-grandchildren,Nicholas and Tirzah Ricks; brothers, Ainos Wempen and wife Jeaiiette of Buffalo Center, Bill Wempen of Argonia, Kansas; Harry Wempen and wife Edith of Talent, Oregon; George Wempen and wife Irene of Buffalo Center, and sister EstherGrimes of Buffalo Center, as well as her aunt, Susan Adams and a sister-in-law, Lucille Sonnenberg both of Buffalo Center.
Margaret was preceded in death by her parents; her husband in May of 1992, and brother-in-law, David L. Grimes. <>
