Maurice E. Hayenga was the son of Rev. L.H. and Amelia Blocklinger Hayenga. The family came to the George area when Rev. Hayenga served the Zoar Presbyterian Church. Maurice attended ruralschool, the George High School and furthered hiseducation at the Capitol City Commercial College in Des Moines, Iowa. In September 1917, he joined the army and served in the United States and France in World War I. He then returned to George where he worked at Martin Brother'sStore.
He married Tillie Klinkenborg, daughter of Evert and Julia Christians Klinkenborg. Tillie spent a few years on the family farm and then the family moved into town. Tillie graduated from George School and enrolled at Iowa State TeachersCollege in Cedar Falls. She attended college for three years and taught for a number of years in both the rural schools and the local town school. ... The couple raised one daughter, Marlene (m. Robert Kannegieter), who lives in George."

"Kannegieter, Albert - Bertha Bruns
Albert and Bertha were married in Little Rock, Iowa. They farmed at Toronto and Willow Lake, South Dakota and then moved back to Little Rock. In 1940, they moved to a farm near George. Elsewhere in this book are pictures of the winddamage done on their farm in 1940. They retired from farming and moved into George where they were active in the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.
Albert was an inventor and had two registered patents related to farming. He also attended the School of Traction Engineering at the University of Minnesota, which qualified him to operate steam engines. Bertha was a very busy wife and mother and helped in farming operations.

George, IA Robert "Bob" Kannegieter, age 76 of George, IA died Friday, May 14, 2010 at the Sanford Hospital of Sioux Falls, SD. Funeral service will be 10:30 AM Tuesday, May 18, 2010 at the Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, with Reverend Paul Fischer officiating. Burial will follow in the Evergreen Lawn Cemetery of George. Visitation will be Monday, May 17th from 2:00 - 8:00 PM with the family present from 6:00 - 8:00 PM at the Jurrens Funeral Home of George.
Robert "Bob" Calvin Kannegieter was born October 6, 1933, at Willow Lake, SD the son of Albert and Bertha (Bruns) Kannegieter. Bob and his family moved to a farm north of Little Rock, IA in 1934 and in 1940 they moved to George where Bob attended school. He was united in marriage to Marlene Hayenga on December 6, 1952 at Monroe, SD. Just four days later Bob entered the United States Navy and served his country from December 10, 1952 until he was honorably discharged in November of 1956. In January of 1957, Bob attended meat cutting school in Toledo, OH. Upon graduation he started working as a meat cutter from 1958 until 1962. From 1963 until 1975, he worked for Curtiss Breeding Service. He later worked in the elevator business from 1976 until 1983. He also worked at Natural Beauty and the George Veterinary Clinic. He was a faithful member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George where he had served as a trustee and Sunday school teacher. He and Marlene also served as church custodians for many years. He was a member of the Jack Sauter Post No. 404 American Legion in George and was a past 4-H leader. He was an avid Chicago Bears Fan and enjoyed raising horses and birds, woodworking, fishing, gardening, cooking and canning, but most importantly he loved spending time with his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was a caring person who was very proud of his family.
This past Friday May 14, 2010, Bob died at the Sanford Hospital in Sioux Falls, SD at the age of seventy-six. Bob is survived by his wife Marlene Kannegieter of George, IA; and three children, Linda (Bob) Thompson of Parker, CO; Ronda (Robert) VanBriesen of George, IA and Rob (Diane) Kannegieter of Aurelia, IA; grandchildren, Mike Thompson; Kim (James) Collins; BJ (Devin) Van Briesen; Jessica (Justin) Overman; Kayla Van Briesen; Kandi (fiance, Eric Poppler) Van Briesen; Nikki (Mark) Van Oort; Kelly (Kristi) Kannegieter; Tyler (Jessica) Kannegieter and Lanaya Kannegieter; great-grandchildren, Kaylee Collins; Jordyn and Jayla Overman; Kory, Addisyn and Dustin Van Oort; Brock and Brittany Kannegieter; Aubrey and Leah Kannegieter; along with three sisters, Agnes Kruse; Marvel (Ronald) Blum and Wanda Koger; one brother, Delbert (Gladys) Kannegieter all of George.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Hank and two sisters, Mattie Johnson and Delores Colwell.
