"Obituaries George W. Ennen, 86 Funeral services for George W. Ennen, 86, were held on Tuesday, April 15 [1997], at First Presbyterian Church in Lakota [IA] with Dr. J. C. Chambers and Rev. Ron Wheeler officiating. Interment was at MapleHill Cemetery in Lakota. Winter Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
The organist is Nancy Haas and the congregation participated in the singing of hymns. Casketbearers were George Brandt, Marlin Brandt, Darrell Brandt, Kevin Brandt, William Brandt, Rodney Stenberg, and Tracey Stenberg.
George William Ennen, son of Reemt and Etta (Ukena) Ennen, was born May 23, 1910, in Germania (now Lakota). He attended school in Lakota and helped his dad farm.
On July 25, 1934, George was united in marriage to Annie Rippentrop in the Parsonage in Lakota. They farmed for many years in Lakota and Elmore, Minnesota. George retired from farming in 1966 and moved to Lakota where he was employed bythe school as a custodian for 14 years.
George was an active member of the Presbyterian Church where he taught Sunday School, was a trustee, and was ordained as an Elder in 1954. He sang in choir and the quartet for many years. George enjoyed his music and his grandchildren.
In June 1994, George entered the Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center. He passed away at the nursing home Friday, April 11, 1997.
George is survived by his wife, Annie, of Lakota; three daughters: Darlene Brandt and her friend, Victor Clark, of Rochester, Minnesota; Margaret and her husband, Earl Westphal, of North Mankato, Minnesota; Patricia and her husband, GeneWeringa, of Waconia, Minnesota; ten grandchildren: Gregory and his wife, Anne Brandt; Marlin aand his wife, Nancy Brandt; Darrell and his wife, Susan Brandt; Kevin Brandt; William Brandt; Rodney and his wife, Pam Stenberg; Georgia and herhusband, Mark Ricklefs; Jolene King; Tracy Stenberg; Carrie Weringa and her fianc, Randy Wessbecker; three step-grandchildren: Sheila and her husband, Jeff Ashland; Vickie Westphal and her friend, John; Ricky Westphal and his friend,Shari; twenty-two great-grandchildren; one sister, Minnie Lester of Rochester, Minnesota; one sister-in-law, Alice Ennen of Elmore, Minnesota; and many nieces, nephews and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, and five sisters." <>
