SERVICES HELD SATURDAY FOR FRANK FRANZEN
Funer services were held Saturday afternoon for Frank Franzen who passed away Wednesday morning. The service was held at the home at 1:30 and at Immanuel Lutheran church at 2:00, with the Swan Funeral Home in charge. Pall bearers wereHenry Brandt, Everett Post, Ernest Hofmann, Egbert Buss, Henry Mayland and John Oestermann. Rev. Planz, the pastor, read the following obituary:
Frank Franzen was the oldest son of Herman Franzen and his wife Wupke Stohr. He was born November 5, 1864, in Ostfriesland, Germany, and was united in faith with the Triune God by the sacrament of Holy Baptism. At the age of four yearshe came to America with his parents, residing in Grundy County, Iowa. When eighteen years of age he came to Kossuth County, near Titonka, where he lived with his parents. He was confirmed by Rev. Aug. Wellner.
On July 4th, 1892, he was united in marriage with Tetjc DeBoer, by the Rev. Christian Jensen. They lived on their farm home one mile west of Immanuel Lutheran church. The Lord blessed the labors of his hands. He was always a faithfulmember of Immanuel congregation, being trustee of the congregation for 24 years, and was also active in civil affairs.
About ten years ago he and his wife moved to Titonka. The Lord blessed them with nine children. father Franzen felt the infirity of old age for the past year, but was confined to his home the last four months. Last Wednesday morningthe Lord in His infinite wisdom and love received him into His eternal home. He reached the age of 77 years, 9 months.
He leaves to mourn his departure, his beloved wife, six daughters, all of whom live on farms in the vicinity of Titonka, Katie, Mrs. Wm. Rode, E.., Mrs. Hy. Brandt, Tena, Mrs. Fred Bruns, Amanda, Mrs. Heiko Bruns, Anna, Mrs. Wm Schutter,Flora, Mrs. Meinert Ulman. One daughter, Lena, died at the age of 21 years. Two sons also died in infancy. He also leaves one brother, Henry of Titonka, and nineteen grandchildren, also many relatives and friends. Blessed are the deadthat die in the Lord.
