H. FRANZEN, SR. DIED WEDNESDAY LONG A RESIDENT

Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon for Henry Franzen Sr., who died Wednesday evening at his home in Titonka following a stroke on the Saturday previous. He never rallied after the stroke. The funeral was held from the home at1 o'clock with memorial services at Immanuel Lutheran church, with the pastor, Rev. Wm. Planz in charge. Burial was in Immanuel cemetery. Pallbearers were Norman Bruns, Louis Franzen, Raymond Franzen, Maurice Isebrand, Harold Rick_lefsand Arthur Rike. Many memorials were given in honor of Mr. Franzen.

Following is the obituary read at the service:

Henry Franzen Sr. was the second son of Herman and Wuebke Franzen, and was born Sept. 4, 1867, in Ostfriesland, Germany. He was received as a child of God and an heir of salvation through the sacrament of Hold Baptism as an infant.

He came to America with his parents and family when he was only 18 months old. The family lived in Ackley for 15 years, after which they came to Titonka. The Franzen family were charter members of Immanuel congregation.

On November 3, 1892, he was united in marriage with Anneta Amelsberg, bu the Rev. David Schaefer. This happy union was blessed with eight children. Ida preceded her father in death April 16, 1927, at the age of 23. Father Franzen was asuccessful farmer until his retirement in Titonka in 1930. He lived on the farm north of Titonka where his son Dick now lives.

This happy couple whom the Lord richly blessed, were by the grace of God permitted to celebrate their golden anniversary, with a service of praise at the church and a reception at the home in 1942. Last fall they also celebrated their54th anniversary at the home of their oldest daughter Carrie (Mrs. Hy. Bruns).

Father Franzen enjoyed good health nearly all his life. Last Saturday morning he still visited his children. In the afternoon he was stricken with a stroke. Wednesday at 11 p.m. he fell peacefully asleep in the Lord. He reached theage of 80 years and 6 days.

Father Franzen served on the church council for a number of years and also held various civil offices.

H leaves to mourn his departure his beloved wife, seven children, Carrie (Mrs Henry Bruns, Ben, Herman, Henry Dietrich, Lina, Mrs. George Sonnenberg, of Titonka, and Alice, Mrs. Herman Limberg of Woden, also 14 grandchildren and fivegreat grandchildren, and many other relatives and friends.
