Morris Menno Isebrand was born October 14, 1919, in rural Titonka, IA, the son of Senus and Edith (Pannkuk) Isebrand. He was baptized and confirmed at Ramsey Reform Church, rural Titonka. He graduated from Titonka School in 1938.
After graduation, Morris worked for several local farmers where he met his future bride. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in September 1942 and served in the 516th Anti-Aircraft Artillery unit. He started his radar technology training traveling to North Carolina, Kansas City, MO, and back to North Carolina before being deployed to Camp Callen in San Diego, CA, and finally to Camp Hon in the Hawaiian Islands where he helped to train troops. During a two week leave in 1943, Morris asked his fiancé, Doris Franzen, to marry him. On May 14, Pastor William Planz married Morris and Doris at Immanuel Lutheran Church, rural Titonka. He was married to his darling for 69 years and they were blessed with seven children. When Morris came home from the service in January 1946, he moved with his family to a Titonka farmstead where he continued his love of farming until he retired in 1984. He was active at Immanuel Lutheran, including serving on the church council and as Sunday School Superintendent. Morris was also a member of the Titonka American Legion Breen Post 465.
Morris had many hobbies. In his early years he enjoyed weekly league bowling, horseshoe games, pheasant hunting, card and board games with family and friends, fishing and even a few years of square dancing. Many games of pool were played with his kids and grandkids. After retirement he discovered a hidden talent of wood carving. He enjoyed golf with friends and in later years a love of Soduko puzzles, computer card games and morning coffee with friends at the Red Dog Lounge where lots of laughs were shared.
In October, 2010, Morris was thrilled to fly to Washington, D.C. with seven other of his WW II veteran friends, where they toured many sites including the WW II Memorial.
On August 4, 2012, Morris died unexpectedly and peacefully at the age of 92. He always enjoyed helping others and even in his death his skin tissue donations will bring healing to many. He will be missed by many family and friends. May God bless his memory.
Morris is survived by 6 children: Darrell (Elizabeth) of Eagan, MN; Jean (Gene) Allen of Alma, AR; David (Ruby) of Pemberton, MN; Bonita (Rick) Kearns of Hopkins, MN; Rodney (Linda) of Lake Crystal, MN; Jolene (Michael) Leding of Barling, AR; his brother Merle of Ft Myers, FL; sister-in-law, Goldie Isebrand of Titonka; Aunt Ivah Pannkuk of Bloomington, MN; 19 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Morris was preceded in death by his parents, Senus and Edith Isebrand; brothers, Richard and Herbert of Titonka; sister Doloris Gross of Nevis, MN; son Gary and grandson Anthony Isebrand of Pemberton, MN.
