The Lord God says "Be glad and rejoice forever in that which I create." This gladmess and joy was in the hearts of William Tjaden and his wife, Katie DeBoer Tjaden, when God placed into their home a daughter whom they named Elizabeth. She was born August 2, 1897, at the family farm home in German Township. On November 1, 1897 she was received into the family fo God through Holy Baptism at Ramsey Reformed Church.
Early in her life she moved with her family into Ramsey Township where she grew up and attended public school. She also attended Sunday school and catechism class of Good Hope, and was later received into confirmed membership through therite of confirmation on April 9, 1911. God provided for her a life-long spouse as she was united in marriage to Ewald F. Bruns on March 15, 1922 ath the Good Hope Lutheran Church. God blessed this union with four children, three ofwhich survive.
Following their marriage they established their farm home about five miles northeast of Titonka and continued to live there until their retirement in September, 1960, at which time they moved into Titonka. Elizabeth, more familiarlycalled Lizzie, was a good wife and mother. She enjoyed the many blessings of home, family, church and grandchildren. Creatively she found expression in the duties of home and family, in gardening and needlework. She also had particularchallenges in her life, such as, carrying the burden of the death of her son Harold in 1937 at age 11, and also the daily concern and care for a handicapped daughter.
Lizzie Experienced strength of body and soundness of mind most all of her life, except the burden of a hearing problem for many years. She began to fail gradually in health four years ago but was able to maintain an active life inkeeping up with the duties of the home until the last few days of her life. Following a brief illness she passed away about 2:00 a.m., Monday, April 22.
She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Harold; a sister, Mrs Elsine Schutter; and a brother, Theodore, in his childhood.
She is survived by her husband; two daughters, Mrs Robert Steinberg and Miss Wilda Bruns; on son, Mervin, two sisters, Mrs Siemon Smidt and Mrs Ted Van Hove, Sr.; one brother, Stephen Tjaden; and four grandchildren. All survivors residein the vicinity of Titonka.
The Lord gave life and after 65 years, 8 months and 19 days the lord has taken it away. Blessed be the name of the Lord and blessed by the memory of our loved one and our friend.
Following the committal service the Vivian Circle of the Good Hope Lutheran Church Women served lunch in fellowship hall." <>
