Mr. and Mrs. Calvin Rippentrop were at Mason City on Monday, April 11th where Mrs. Maria Lucia Rippentrop, Italian born, became a citizen of the United States in impressive ceremonies at the Federal Distict Court. Sponsors for Mrs.Rippentrop and witnesses for her since the first application for citizenship were Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Bosma. Married in Trieste, Italy on August 13, 1952 while Calvin was serving in the U.S. Armed Forces. Mr. and Mrs Rippentrop arethe parents of two children, Allan, 5, and Lori, 2. Every member of our community welcomes Mrs. Rippentrop into her new status as an American citizen and wish for her family both peace and prosperity as good Americans." <>

"Born and raised on Farm 2 miles west and 2 miles north of Buffalo Center, IA. Family moved to town in 1946 & worked for Hum & Olson Construction, later for John & Jerry hardware. Jan. 30 1949 enlisted in army and was stationed inTrieste, Italy. Discharged August 1952, came back to Buffalo Center worked for R.T.A. 1 yr. then back to hardware store till 1964 afterwhich [sic] he purchased Cal's Plumbing & Heating."

"Calvin L. Rippentrop, son of Calvin C. 'Kelly' and Frieda (Hayer) Rippentrop, was born and raised on a farm two miles west and two miles north of Buffalo Center. The family moved to town in 1946, whereupon he became employed by Hum & Olson Construction and later by John and Jerry Hardware. On January 30, 1949 he enlisted in the U.S. Army, and was stationed at Trieste, Italy until August of 1952.
"On August 13, 1952 he took a bride, Maria Lucia Garbeis, daughter of Antonio and Giusepina (Sluga) Garbeis. After his discharge they returned to Buffalo Center where he worked for R.T.A. at Thompson, Iowa for one year and then returned to John & Jerry Hardware until 1964. On April 1, 1964 he purchased the plumbing and heating from John Slaba and began Cal's Plumbing & Heating. In 1971 Maria opened and operated the Fabric Village until 1987.
"Calvin and Maria are parents of two children: Allan L. born November 21, 1954 and Lori L. born February 26, 1958. Allan and his wife, Dolores (Helin) reside in Buffalo Center; they have two children, Robbie, 14, and Amber, 11. Lori and her husband, Ronald Coleman, live in LaCrescent, Minnesota; they have two children, Natalie, 6 and Rachel, 3. Cal is presently city councilman."

"Calvin L. Rippentrop September 23, 1929 - February 21, 2019
Calvin Lee Rippentrop was born September 23, 1929, on the family farm northwest of Buffalo Center, the son of Calvin "Kelly" and Frieda (Heyer) Rippentrop. He attended country school through the 7th grade and in later years he proudly obtained his GED. In 1949, he served in the United States Army doing his basic training in Ft. Riley Kansas and being stationed in Italy. It was there he met his wife, Maria Lucia Garbeis. They were married on August 13, 1952, in Trieste, Italy.
Following their marriage, they returned to Buffalo Center where Cal worked for WTA Telephone Company and John and Jerry's Hardware. In 1962, he established Cal's Plumbing and Heating operating it for 30 years until retiring in 1992. Cal was a strong community member serving as a volunteer fireman for 11 years, serving as mayor pro tem and on the city council for 12 years, he also served on the Centennial Committee and was a Cub Scouts pack leader in earlier years. Cal became a member of First Congregational Church at the age of 17 and served as Deacon and Trustee through many years of membership of the Church. He was also active in the Buffalo Center VFW and the American Legion. Cal enjoyed traveling with his wife and woodworking.
In June, 2014, he became a resident of Timely Mission Nursing Home. He died there Thursday, February 21, 2019, at the age of 89.
He is survived by two children, Allan (Dolores) Rippentrop of Owatonna, MN and Lori (Ron) Coleman of Ankeny; four grandchildren, Rob (Kristy) Rippentrop, Amber Wubben, Natalie (Matt) Neil, and Rachel (Seth) Drury; and six great-grandchildren, Tyler and Emma Wubben, and Skyler, Samantha, Hayden Rippentrop, and Greyson Neil; and a sister, Ramona Levorson and her husband Harlan of Lake Mills. He was preceded in death by his parents; and his wife Maria on April 12, 2017."
