A story from Forest about Lillian's family: "It was that spring that Lillian's mother committed suicide. She drank strychnine. Because she had three sisters, Bessie 8, Eleanor, 9 and Barbara 10, Lillian quit her job and went home to try to care for them. That didn't last long; shegot no help or support so she wrote me a letter to come take her back to her job. Consequently I got blamed for her leaving. We got run off with a broomstick, thankfully it wasn't a shotgun. He never talked to me after that even though Iwould take her home to see the kids."

Obituary (from the National Obituary Archive):

"Lillian Emma Garver, 1920 - 2003 Lillian Garver age 83 of Clare died at the MidMichigan Medical Center-Clare on Monday December 15, 2003. She was born February 4, 1920 in Gladwin, Michigan to Otto and Matilda (Zimmer) Martz. Lillian is survived by her children JanetHladik, Lyle Garver, Ray and Jeanette Garver, Dale and Karen Garver, brothers and sisters Charles Martz, Bessie Watson, Eleanor Brown, Barbara Horton, three grandchildren, one great grandchild and many other relatives and friends. She waspreceded in death by her parent's, two brothers Herman Martz, Frank Martz, and a sister Laura Brokoff. Services for Lillian were held at the Coker Funeral Home in Farwell on Friday December 19, 2003 with Fr. Joe Fix officiating. Burialthen followed in the Mt. Pleasant Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Mt. Pleasant, Michigan. In lieu of flowers the family has asked that contributions in her name be made to MidMichigan Visiting Nurses Association. Services have been arrangedthrough the Coker Funeral Home of Farwell."
