"Harvey W. Hassebroek, 92 Harvey W. Hassebroek, 92, died Wednesday, June 25, at Timely Mission Nursing Home, Buffalo Center. Funeral services were held Saturday, June 28, 2008 at 10:30 a.m. in the First Congregational Church with Pastor Bill Peake officiating. Honorary bearers were Johnathan Hassebroek and Lauren Hassebroek. Active casketbearers were Royce Murra, Tim Martinson, Steve Hassebroek, Dan Hassebroek, Travis Hassebroek, Mike Hassebroek, Ray Bosma and Ray Murra. Military honors wereconducted by the Buffalo Center American Legion/VFW Color Guard, with burial in Graceland Cemetery. The Winter Funeral Home of Buffalo Center was in charge of arrangements.
Harvey Wesley Hassebroek was born April 30, 1916 at George, Iowa to Wesley and Hattie (Klassen) Hassebroek. He attended school in George, and moved to Buffalo Center in 1933 with his father, stepmother and brother, John. He helped hisfather with farming the family farm. October 6, 1941, Harvey was drafted into the Army and served in the European Theater during World War II in the field artillery. He was honorably discharged in December 1945. After being discharged, hetook over the family farm in Buffalo Center and farmed for 36 years.
He was united in marriage to Grace Bosma on December 31, 1946 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They resided on the farm until 1983 and moved into the Clinic Apartments in Buffalo Center where Harvey was the manager for 10 years andthey resided for 21 years. He moved to Timely Mission Nursing Home in Buffalo Center in August 2004. Harvey was a member of the First Congregational Church serving on the Deacon and Trustee boards. He also served on the Timely MissionNursing Home Board for 15 years and was chairman of that board for 9 years. He was also very active in the American Legion.
He is survived by his son Harley and his wife, Lynn, of Buffalo Center, his grandchildren, Johnathan Hassebroek of Clear Lake and Lauren Hassebroek of Buffalo Center; his brother John and his wife, Bonnie, of Sioux City; many cousins,nieces, and nephews. He is preceded in death by his wife Grace, brother Marvin, half-brother Bill, sister Harriett Van Horne, and daughter-in-law Susan Hassebroek."
