Nola Rae Cooper was born December 1, 1947 in Albert Lea, Minnesota daughter of Robert W. and Audrey (Johnson) Boekelman. She grew up in the Titonka area graduating from Titonka High School in 1966. Nola then attended Beauty School at LaJames in Mason City.
On October 11, 1969, she was united in marriage to Norman Cooper at the United Methodist Church in Titonka. Nola followed Norman to various locations throughout the country while he served in the United States Air Force and they spent time in the Ames area while Norman attended Iowa State University. In 1976 they returned to Titonka, where Nola worked as a beautician at Marion's Red Carpet Salon. Throughout the years, she continued to work at that location with various other colleagues and owners of the business. In recent years, Nola enjoyed working at Hofbauer Catering and Floral.
Nola was very active in her church, most recently serving as Financial Secretary and serving various other roles over the years. She also enjoyed being involved in her community by serving on the Titonka School Board, the Titonka Library Board, and the Titonka Community Club. She loved spending time with her family and friends, especially assisting her father with construction and carpentry projects. In quiet times, she enjoyed tending to her flowers, doing crossword puzzles, and reading.
Nola R. Cooper died Friday evening, May 2, 2008 at Muse Norris Hospice Inpatient Unit, Mason City following a courageous battle with breast cancer. She was 60.
She is survived by her husband Norman of Titonka; two children, Brock and his wife Dana of Des Moines, and Maggie of Ventura; her mother, Audrey Boekelman of Titonka; and two sisters, Rhonda Vinsand and her husband Ronny of Humboldt and Laura Phelps and her husband Doug of Titonka. She is also survived by her father-in-law, Kenneth Cooper and his wife Lois of Lime Springs; a brother-in-law, Roger Cooper and his wife Karen of Aberdeen, SD; and many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and cousins.
She was preceded in death by her father, Robert Boekelman on September 25, 2006; and her mother-in-law, Louise Cooper"
