"Mr. and Mrs. JAN GROEN
Four years after their immigration to the United States Mr. and Mrs Jan Groen located on a farm in this locality.
The couple--natives of Germany where they were married May 24 1874--came to this country in 1855 and located at Forreston, Ill. In 1889 they settled on a farm south of Lennox [SD], where they continued their duties until 1911 when theyretired and took up their residence in Lennox.
Mr. Groen was born at Tigelwarf [sic], Ostfriesland, Germany, November 16, 1842. Mrs. Groen, formerly Remda Ennenga, was also born at Tigelwarf, November 10 1852.
Twelve children were born to this union, one of whom died in infancy. Mrs. Frank Johnke died in 1920. Surviving children include: Harm, Peter, John, Heiko, Etta and Anna Groen, Mrs. H. E. Schneiderman, Mrs. Peter Murra, Mrs. Theodore Wiebers, and Mrs. George White.
Mr. Groen died July 7, 1925 at the age of 82 years. Mrs Groen expired October 3, 1938, at the age of 85 years."
