After fighting a courageous battle against cancer, Ralph Howard was taken home to God on Tuesday evening, October 6, 2009.
Born in Wauseon, Ohio on November 29, 1925, the son of Ralph A. and Alice Knight Howard. He graduated form Worthington High School in 1943, where he was a star athlete, lettering in football, basketball and track.
After serving two years in the Army of Occupation in Japan at the end of WW II, he entered the Ohio State University and earned his degree, graduating in 1950.
Ralph served as Physical Director in the YMCA at Bemis, Tennessee and afterwards as the Director of the Oak Park Branch of the YMCA in Memphis and the Pike County YMCA in Waverly, Ohio.
He then took a position as an elementary teacher in the Pike County School System. Taking additional classes at O.S.U. to secure his teaching credentials, he joined the staff of the Olentangy Schools in 1961 and taught fourth grade there until his retirement in 1986.
After retirement he kept himself busy volunteering at the Sunbury United Methodist Church, doing service projects with the Sunbury Lions Club, driving Meals on Wheels and was the Food Coordinator for Big Walnut Friends Who Share. His service was a blessing to many.
