1910 Norway Census

This inclusion of full birth dates for most people makes the 1910 census a genealogically important substitute national birth index for Norway in 1910. This was also the first census conducted following the dissolution of Norway’s union with Sweden in 1905. Following this dissolution of its union with Sweden, Norwegian society underwent a period of significant national pride. As a result, many of the municipality and city names associated with Danish or Swedish rule were replaced with more traditional Norwegian names. For example, the capitol, Kristiania, originally named after Danish King Christian IV, was renamed Oslo in 1924.

The many changes to the names and borders of municipalities in Norway can present significant obstacles for genealogists. Detailed information about border and name changes within Norway can be found at the National Archives of Norway.

Digitized images for the 1910 Norway Census are not currently available and have never been microfilmed or digitized by the National Archives of Norway. This collection is composed of transcribed index records provided in cooperation with the National Archives of Norway.
