Joseph Whittson was born about 1615 in England. He was affiliated with
the tradesmen of Bristol, England as is stated in the records of Isle of Wight County,Virginia. A record of his passage to America is found as he croseed the Atlantic in 1635 on the ship Primrose.* Joseph apparently altered the spelling of the surname after coming to America. Joseph farmed in the general area of Isle of Wight County until 1694 (Boddie 550).At a sale on October 1, 1694, Joseph Whitson, at the age of 80 years, acquired 300 acres of land on the Aquia River, Rooses bank, in Stafford County, Virginia. (Stafford County is located in the northeast corner of Virginia, on the Potomac
River.)The wife of Joseph Whitson, name unknown, died between 1694 and 1695 and is probably buried on family burial land on the Whitson porperty.
Joseph Whitson died in 1696. He bequeathed the Whitson land to the Whitson children, of which Samuel was the oldest.
Joseph was buried in the family cemetery in Stafford County, Virginia.
