Charles and Susanna Tarleton Fleming already had five daughters, Elizabeth, Ursula, Grace, Judith, and Susannah, before they had their first son; '''John Fleming.''' Ee was born in November 1697. Charles Fleming lived to see all of his daughters married, but died before his son's marriage. John was a merchant who also inherited large land holdings. His father as a extremely successful planter. He and John Woodson were engaged in business and land transactions, and Tarleton Woodson was also engaged in land transactions with his father-in-law (Charles Fleming deeded land to Tarleton Woodson on Oct 7,1717). John inherited land in what was to become Goochland, then Cumberland, then Powhatan County, and lived at "Mount Pleasant" on the James River. John married Mary Bolling, the daughter of John Fairfax Bolling and Mary Kennon on Jan 20, 1727 in Henrico County, Virginia. They had six sons: John, Thomas, Charles, William, Richard, and a son who died before his father. Their daughters were Mary, md William Bernard, Caroline md James Dean, then James Fyrie. John Fleming was one of the leading men of the formation of Goochland County, and one of its first Justices (1728-1730). On the death of his brother- in- law Col. Thomas Randolph, of "Tuckahoe" he succeeded him in the office of county Lieutenant and presiding Justice of Goochland. He was a Burgess from Goochland County in 1732 and 1737. Mary Bolling Fleming died on August 10,1744 and John never married again. His will is recorded in Cumberland County, Dec 27, 1756. He left his tract of land in Cumberland County, called "Marden's Adventure" to his son John. To his son, Thomas, he left a tract of land called "Little Creek" in Goochland and to his son, William, the "Mount Pleasant Plantation". Richard inherited the plantation called "Daniel". -------------------- Alexander's parents may be John Fleming and (Mary?),but it has not been proven.
