Sometime in the mid 1850's Alexander and a few other Bowman relatives dropped the W from their name and became Boman. A story is told that this was to dis-associate themselves from the rest of the family.
Daniel E. Bowman left his family and he was declared dead 7 years later. It is beleaved that he deserted his family, however he may have died. His mother, Polly Chaffee was so upset by his behavior that she removed his name from her family bible and refused to permit his name to be spoken.

Pg. 56To be as accurate as possible, historically speaking one must differentiate between the early land owners and the early settlers, in speaking of Edenville. Much of the land in Town 16 North, Range 1 West, was owned by land speculators in Saginaw and East Saginaw. For example, Timothy Jerome of East Saginaw had built the first sawmill in this area on the Tobacco River, one mile above the present village of Edenville in 1853. But there were still many acres of land that could be had by anyone brave and daring enough to settle in this rough and almost wholly uncivilized area. Two such men were Daniel Boman or Bowman and Joseph A. Rooker. Both of these men arrived in the Edenville area sometime between 1854 and 1855.Daniel "Big Dan" Bowman or Boman arrived from Saginaw late in 1854 or early 1855. He built a log cabin and lived there with his wife and child Juliette. He was vitally interested in the growth of the community and in later years did much to insure the growth of Edenville. It was he who gave his log cabin to the community to start the first school house, and he was among the first to initiate steps necessary to first seperate "Sixteen" or Edenville from the township of Egbert and late from Jerone township to form its own independent township.from "Midland County Portrait and Biograhical" published 1884"The first marriage in Midland County was that of Sylvester Erway, so long a Supervisor of Edenville Township, and Julia Bowman, daughter of Daniel Bowman, one of the first settlers. The ceremony was performed by Esquire Abraham Egbert, April 6, 1855.""The first election was held October 20, 1855, at the home of Abraham Egbert, in honor of whom it was named. The judges of that election were Abraham Egbert, Jacob Hagar and Daniel Bowman.""The villiage of Edenville is a neat little place on section I, at the junction of the Tittabawassee River and Tobacco Creek. It was platted in 1878 by Henry Church, who also kept the first hotel, which was built in the spring of 1863. Daniel Bowman built the first house on the village plat, of logs.""Abraham Egbert was the first settler in the township, and first Justice of the Peace. David Burton, Daniel Bowman and Aaron Havens settled here in 1855."

Bowman, leaving Edenville, Midland County, Michigan, where we were living, it was sometime about the last of June or 1st of July 1865, for about one year after he went away we heard from him and could learn nothing of his whereabouts and nothing has been heard from him since, and to the best of my knowledge and belief he is dead."Daniel was declared dead sometime after his leaving Edenville in 1865. His wife remarried in 1870.

Of these said children, of the said Daniel E. Bowman, have lived in and near the County of Midland, Michigan since the departure of the said Daniel E. Bowman as aforesaid. The said Jane Bowman was married again in the year 1870, but had no children by her second husband. He has not since said time sold or conveyed the same to my knowledge to any persons. The said Jane T.Bowman my mother died in the year 1892, at the time of her death she was residing at the Township of Edenville, Midland, Michigan. Daniel Bowman is of Dutch-French descent. Jane Dempster is
Scottish. The Bowmans were from St. Clair, St. Clair County, Michigan
prior to being in Midland Co. In 1855, the Bowmans migrated north to

Probate Court for said county. In the matter of the estate of
Daniel E. Bowman, deceased. At a session of said court held at the

April 1901. Josephine Haynes, being duly sworn, testifies as follows: I
am a daughter of the said Daniel E. Bowman and Jane T. Bowman his wife.
