Ezra Kelsey (813) was a farmer and resided at Killingworth, the place of his birth, until he was nearly fifty years of age and while serving as Executor of his father's will, he made a trip to Vermont to settle with his brother Ethan812 and sister Mary815, who were then living at Salisbury, that state. Evidently the surroundings impressed him very much, for we find that in 1807 he bargained with a Mr. Justin, at Whiting, Vt., for a large house, out buildings and a farm of 135 acres, for the sum of $2,500.00 cash, according to the deed, which was written May 4, 1807, and recorded on the 18th; witnessed by Ebenezer Wheelock, Amos Stone and Stuckley Stone, Town Clerk. He also purchased a large tract of land of Benajah Justin, son of the above, the deed being given May 22, 1807. He then returned to his home in Connecticut, disposed of his holdings there, and returned to Whiting, Vt., in August. With him was his family of a wife and nine children, the eldest, Daniel1520, having just become of age. Their household goods were transported up the Hudson River by sloop to Albany, N. Y., thence in a packet boat to Whitehall, N. Y., and the remainder of the way by team, the father riding horseback. Concealed in a large black handerchief which he wore about his neck, was a large sum of money. During the Revolutionary War, Ezra Kelsey served with distinction,
