Inveresk marriage records did not begin until 1690, so that any ms. of the above couples will not be found in Inveresk p. However, it was learned that James Moffat m. Janet Kaidyly 17 Sep. 1661 in Lasswade p. [94]. They had a son, James, bp. there with a res. of Hatherdean 25 Aug. 1662 [95].
As indicated, it is believed that James & Patrick were brothers, as they both witnessed at bps. of one another's children in Inveresk p, and both were referred to as colehewers. Therefore, if James were likely the son of James Moffat, elder, and James was likely a brother of Patrick, then James Moffat, elder, would also be the father of Patrick.
