POTLATCH, Idaho -- Ruth R. Ulinder, a longtime Potlatch, Idaho, homemaker and former town librarian, died of cancer Friday at her home. She was 89.
She and her husband, Henry Olaf Ulinder, moved to Potlatch in 1934.
She was born to Frank and Ada Wentworth Harpham Sept. 13, 1909, at San Diego. Her family lived in several places in the Northwest when she was a child.
She graduated from Elk River High School in 1928.
The Ulinders were married Oct. 22, 1929, at Elk River.
After moving to Potlatch, he worked for Potlatch Forests Inc. (now Potlatch Corp.) He retired in 1967.
She was a member of Grace Lutheran Church at Potlatch, the Potlatch Chapter No. 48, Order of the Eastern Star and the Rock Creek Grange, serving as an officer in the Idaho State Grange.
She also served on the Latah County Library Board and worked as librarian at Potlatch in the 1950s and 1960s. She was also the volunteer chairwoman of the American Cancer Society at Potlatch.
She was known to her grandchildren as "Grandma Potlatch,'' and was an avid gardener.
Her husband died in 1990.
Survivors include one son, John Ulinder, of Potlatch; two daughters, Vera Hutcheson of Juliaetta and Shirley Carlson of Jefferson City, Mont.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Grace Lutheran Church at Potlatch. The Revs. Peg Harvey-Marose and Thomas Ledbetter, formerly of Potlatch Lutheran, will officiate.
A luncheon will be served at the Rebekah Lodge in Potlatch following the service at about noon.
Cremation will precede the service and inurnment will be held at the Potlatch Cemetery.
The family suggests memorials to the Hospice of the Palouse, 700 South Main St., Moscow 83843 or to the Potlatch Ambulance Fund in Potlatch.
Kramer Funeral Home of Palouse is in charge of the arrangements.
