SOPHIE ([1018]-21 Jan 1093). The Chronicon Sancti Michælis, monasterii in pago Virdunensi names "duabus puellulis Sophia et Beatrice" as daughters of the son of "duce Theodorico", specifying that the empress was their amita and that she adopted them after their father died[149]. The Gesta Episcoporum Virdunensium names (in order) "Beatrix…et Sophia" daughters of "iunior Frederici", specifying that Sophia married "Ludovico de Monzione comiti"[150]. The Chronicle of Alberic de Trois-Fontaines names "comitissa Barri…Sophia" as wife of "comiti Montionis Ludovico", specifying that she was sister of "Beatrix marchisa" but incorrectly naming "Sigefridi fratris Frederici" as their father[151]. Her share of the succession of her brother consisted of the abbey of Saint-Mihiel and its dependencies, the castles of Bar, Amance and Mousson, the southern part of her family's ancestral lands[152]. Her territories were threatened by Eudes II Comte de Blois, who had challenged the succession of Emperor Konrad II to the kingdom of Burgundy in 1032. Comte Eudes captured Bar 14 Nov 1037 but was defeated and killed at Commercy by the emperor's troops[153]. She entered into possession of her lands at the time of her marriage[154]. Pibon Bishop of Toul granted privileges to the priory of Laître sous Amance, founded by "comitissæ Sophiæ", by charter dated 1076 under which she declared the castle of Amance belonged to "Theodericus dux, comitissæ avus" who had inherited it from "comiti Folmaro in Asmantia"[155]. The Obituaire de Saint-Mansuy records the death "21 Jan" of "Sophia comitissa"[156]. m (1038) LOUIS de Mousson, Comte de Montbéliard, Altkirch and Ferrette, son of --- & his wife Hildegarde [im Nordgau] ([1015]-[29 Aug 1071/1076]).

Sophia van Bar (ca. 1020 - 21 januari of 21 juni 1093) was de jongste dochter van Frederik II van Lotharingen en van Mathilde van Zwaben.

Bij de dood van haar broer Frederik III werden Bar, Mousson, Amance en Sarreguemines en het voogdijschap van de abdij van Saint-Mihiel toegewezen aan Sophia, terwijl Lotharingen naar Gozelo I van Verdun ging.

Ze werd, tezamen met haar zuster Beatrix, geadopteerd door haar tante, keizerin Gisela van Zwaben, en opgevoed aan het keizerlijk hof. Sophia stichtte de Mariakloosters in Bar-le-Duc en Chatenais.

Zij huwde in 1038 met Lodewijk van Mömpelgard, en werd de moeder van:

Frederik (ovl. 29 juni 1091), heer van Lutzelbourg. Steunde aanvankelijk tegenkoning Rudolf van Rheinfelden. Trok daarna naar Italië en maakte zich verdienstelijk als legeraanvoerder van zijn tante Beatrix en zijn nicht Mathilde van Toscane. Hij trouwde in 1080 te Turijn (stad) met Agnes van Savoie (ca. 1068 - na 1110) en werd markgraaf van Susa. Begraven in de Pauluskerk te Canossa. Na zijn dood werd Agnes non, en veroverde keizer Hendrik IV Toscane en het markgraafschap Susa.
