Arrived in New York from Amsterdam, Netherlands 30 Oct 1882 on ship Surrey.
John Roetman died at his home west of Hospers on Wednesday September 4th after an illness of several weeks. He was a victim of cancer of the stomach and suffered much at times.
Deceased was born in the province of Gelderland, Netherlands in 1865. At the age of seventeen he came to the United States and came direct to Sioux county.
On February 26th, 1891 he was united in marriage to Miss Kate De Graaf. This union was blessed with nine children, all of whom survive.
The funeral services were held this Friday from the Christian Reformed church, Rev. Vander Heide had charge of the services. Interment was made in the Hospers cemetery.
Deceased is survived by his widow - nine children, Mrs. Jno. Ver Hoef of Philby and Jennie, Gerrit, Frank, Maggie, John, Ben, Edith and Katie at home.
