Mrs. Kate Vander Schaaf, 66, passed away at the De Bey hospital Friday, August 5, from complications following an appendix operation.
Mrs. Vander Schaaf, nee Kate De Graaf, was born at Ackley and was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Foppe De Graaf, long time residents of the Newkirk vicinity.
In 1891 she was united in marriage to John Roetman, who died in 1912. One son, Gerrit Roetman died in 1916.
In 1923 she was married to Wiebe Vander Schaaf who died in 1936. She is survived by the following children: Grace, Mrs. J. Ver Hoef, Forest City; Jennie, Mrs. Dick Zwagerman, Sheldon; Frank Roetman, Sanborn; Margie, Mrs. Fred Kreykes, Sheldon; JohnRoetman, Hospers; Ben Roetman, Orange City; Edythe, Mrs. Donald Kraai, Orange City; Kate Roetman, R. N. Denver, Colo. She is also survived by 23 grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
Other survivors are a sister, Mrs. Gerrit Vander Wilt, Orange City; two brothers Dick and Andrew De Graaf of Alton and the Vander Schaaf children including Maggie, Mrs. Bud Vander Velde, Sanborn; Bertha, Mrs. Geo. Duistermars, Hospers; Ella, Mrs. Reuben De Valois, Moneta; Lillian, Mrs. Wm. Top, Orange City; Kathryn, Mrs. Cornie Van Surksum, Alton; Louis Vander Schaaf, Alton; Sjoerd and Joe Vander Schaaf of Orange City.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 1 o'clock at the home and 1:30 at the First Reformed church, with the Revs. J. G. Brouwer and J. S. Ter Louw officiating. Interment was made at the Hospers cemetery.
