Evelyn Gaillard Rhame, 96, beloved wife of the late Lee Richard Rhame, died Wednesday, July 13, 2011, in Charleston.
Born in Dalzell on March 13, 1915, she was a daughter of the late Samuel Porcher Gaillard Sr. and the late Jennie Colclough Gaillard.
Mrs. Rhame was raised in St. Philips Episcopal Church at Bradford Springs and was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Redeemer in Orangeburg. She attended the Dalzell School and graduated from Hillcrest High School and Winthrop College. After 30 years as a math teacher in Orangeburg, she retired from education.
Mrs. Rhame was also a member of the Daughters of the American Revolution and the Daughters of the Confederacy.
Surviving are a nephew, Samuel Porcher Gaillard III and his wife Ann of Charleston; a grandnephew, Samuel Porcher Gaillard IV; five grandnieces, Noel Gaillard Merrill, Catherine Colclough Gaillard, Ann Gaillard Forbes, Elizabeth Creech Bugg and Evelyn Creech Wright.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Samuel Porcher Gaillard Jr., and a niece, Elizabeth Glover Gaillard.
Graveside services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday at St. Philip's Episcopal Church, Bradford Springs, officiated by her grandnephew, the Rev. Samuel Porcher Gaillard IV.
The family will receive friends prior to the service beginning at 9 a.m. Saturday at Elmore Hill McCreight Funeral Home in Sumter.
