Philip Jacob Rothrock was a man of great energy and took an active part in civic affairs. He acquired considerable land by warrant and purchase near York, PA. and in North Carolina. He was also a Moravian preacher and was devoted to his church to the extent that he founded the first Moravian church in York and left a sum of money to it in his will. He was also a printer and engraver and was appointed Commissioner of Printing and Engraving by an act of the Congress when York was the capitol of the United States (30 Sept. 1777 to 17 June 1778). As Commissioner he engraved and printed the New Nation's currency. 2. Philip owned 260A in Friedberg Rowan County, North Carolina and, though he remained a resident of York County, Pennsylvania, some of his sons migrated to North Carolina and gave rise to the branch of the family that became important in that state. Other sons moved westward and his descendants are found early in Missouri and in the rush of the 49ers to the California gold fields. 3. Five of Philip's sons saw service in the Continental Army during the American Revolution; Johannes, Peter, Philip, Valentine, and Benjamin. It is interesting to note that Philip's son Johannes was a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War; Johannes' son George was a veteran of the War of 1812; and George's son Henry, died in service during the Civil War. Leiselheim was 1 hour from Worms.Source: https://familysearch.org/tree/person/LHP2-896/details

Phillip Jacob Rothrock Birth: Dec. 18, 1713, Germany Death: Feb. 28, 1803 York County Pennsylvania, USA Phillip Jacob Rothrock was the eldest of seven known children of Johannes Rothrock (born 1684 at Leiselheim, Germany and died after 1744 at York, York County, Pennsylvania) and Anna Margaretha (Krackel or Ulh?) (b. c1690 or 1688 in Germany, died in Germany or on ship on way to America, c1731-1735). Johannes came to American in 1736 on the ship Harle with his five youngest child, his two eldest children, including Phillip, had proceeded him on an earlier ship. Phillip and his younger brother Johannes (1744-1805) arrived on 29 Ju 1733 aboard the ship (called a Pink) "Mary" of Dublin, out of Rotterdam. Phillips was described as a glazier (glass worker), yeoman (farmer) and a "gentleman" and ran and held public office. It has been written (but not proven) that Phillip was, for a time after the Revolutionary War, Commissioner of Printing and Engraving for the United States in Philadelphia, the capitol at the time. Phillip married Catharina Kuntz (1720-1777) on 22 Mar 1740 in Pennsylvania (probably York County). Phillip and Catharina were the parents of fourteen known children, namely: 1. Jacob Rothrock (1741-1817) 2. Anna Maria Rothrock (1742-young) 3. Johannes Rothrock (1744-1805) 4. Catherine Rothrock (1744-young) 5. Peter Rothrock (1746-1829) 6. Philip Rothrock (1746-1825) 7. George Rothrock (1748-c1800) 8. Valentine Rothrock (1750-young) 9. Valentine Rothrock (1751-1812) 10. Benjamin Rothrock (1753-p1776) 11. Joseph Rothrock (1755-1798) 12. Catherine Rothrock Pentz (1757-1841) 13. Anna Maria Rothrock Meissenkop Berry (1759-p1829) 14. Frederick Rothrock (1760-p1810) After Catharina died, Phillip remarried to the widow Eleanora Macquinet Galatin (1724-???) on 21 Sep 1781 at York, York County, Pennsylvania. Sometime late in life Phillip made an extended trip to the Moravian Community at Salem and Friedberg, in North Carolina where his sons Peter, Philip and balentine had moved. Phillip Jacob and Catherina Rothrock were originally buried at the Gottes Acre Graveyard (Moravian Graveyard) at York, York County, Pennsylvania, but that Graveyard at Princess and Waters Streets in York, was abandoned, and in 1908 their remains were moved to Prospect Hill Cemetery. Phillip's will (1798) mentions his eight living sons, Jacob, John, Peter, Phillip, George, Valentine, Joseph and Frederick; and his two living daughters Catharine Rothrock Pentz and Anna Maria Rothrock Meissenkop Berry. It further states that it is not known if the son Benjamin was still living. Links to Phillip's first wife and five of his fourteen known children are included below.
