Arrived 29/Sep/1733 Philadelphia PA on PINK MARY, James Benn, Capt. with bro.John, 3 yrs.younger Ref. Moravian file p. 206. Philip was eldest son. He held various public offices in York Co. He was a printer in York Co. PA during the Revolution and printed for the firm of Hall & Sellers of Phila. documents and some Continental Currency. His farm was in Manchester Twp. York Co. PA, but in later years he lived in York, York Co. PA. Made his will 28/Feb/1798. In early years his occupation was described as a glazier. Notes on Philip Jacob Rothrock's Family: 1. Philip Jacob Rothrock was a man of great energy and took an active part in civic affairs. He acquired considerable land by warrant and purchase near York, PA. and in North Carolina. He was also a Moravian preacher and was devoted to his church to the extent that he founded the first Moravian church in York and left a sum of money to it in his will. He was also a printer and engraver and was appointed Commissioner of Printing and Engraving by an act of the Congress when York was the capitol of the United States (30 Sept. 1777 to 17 June 1778). As Commissioner he engraved and printed the New Nation's currency. 2. Philip owned 260A in Friedberg Rowan County, North Carolina and, though he remained a resident of York County, Pennsylvania, some of his sons migrated to North Carolina and gave rise to the branch of the family that became important in that state. Other sons moved westward and his descendants are found early in Missouri and in the rush of the 49ers to the California gold fields. 3. Five of Philip's sons saw service in the Continental Army during the American Revolution; Johannes, Peter, Philip, Valentine, and Benjamin. It is interesting to note that Philip's son Johannes was a Lieutenant in the Revolutionary War; Johannes' son George was a veteran of the War of 1812; and George's son Henry, died in service during the Civil War. Leiselheim was 1 hour from Worms.
