George Slaughter's Company, also designated Lieutenant in John Greaves Company, 8th Virginia Regiment commanded by Colonel Abraham Bowman. Enlisted for 3 years. Name appears on company roll for May 1778, dated Valley Forge, June 7, 1778. In November 1779 was at camp near Morrowstown, New Jersey (Morristown?), Capt. Abraham Kirkpatrick's company, same regiment. Served militia 1780. Received 200 acrews of land, taken up by one of his heirs. Source: W. T. RICHARD HARRIS will, Will Book 2, Page 44 ( or could b 144) dtd 26 September 1774 mentions brothers and sisters, a negro named dick now in service of Mr. Peyton Rosbayn of Henrico Cty, Va. not to be sold. Rev. Christopher MacRae named executor. Also inventory made by Thomas Guthery and Alex Guthery. Mr. MacRae says a large debt of 50 pounds sterling, being l/6 part of debts now due estate of John Harris decd.
