Mrs. Geraldine Aberson, 88, of Alton, IA, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, Aug. 28, 2015, at the Orange City Area Health System in Orange City, IA. There will be a memorial service on Monday, Aug. 31, at 11am, at the Alton Reformed Church in Alton. The Rev. Scott Bonestroo will officiate. Interment will be prior to the service at the Nassau Township Cemetery near Alton. Visitation will be after 2pm on Sunday, with the family present from 2pm to 4pm, at the Oolman Funeral Home in Orange City.
"Geri" was born on Apr. 11, 1927, in rural Alton, the daughter of Ralph and Ella (Mouw) Menning. She was raised on the family farm north of Alton and attended the Newkirk, IA, Public School, graduating in 1944. She then attended one year of business school in Sioux City, IA.
She married Peter J. Aberson on Aug. 28, 1947, in Orange City. While her husband attended Westmar College in LeMars, IA, she was a secretary at the LeMars Mutual Insurance Company. Upon his graduation, they moved to Alton, where he taught school in the Alton School District and then the Floyd Valley School District.
Geraldine and Peter spent 68 years together, raising their three children. She devoted herself to her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. She was a member of the Alton Reformed Church, where she taught catechism classes and enjoyed singing in the choir. She was also a member of the Floyd American Legion Post 200 Auxiliary in Alton.
Survivors include her husband, Peter; son Dan (Connie) Aberson, of Sioux Falls; two daughters, Rachel (Dave) Van Gelder, of Chancellor, SD; and Linda (Garry) Stallard, of Kansas City, MO; five grandchildren, Todd (Ranee) Van Gelder, Matt Van Gelder, Scott (Jenna) Aberson, Micah (Jaclyn) Aberson, and Joshua (Christie) Aberson; a step-grandchild, Kim Campbell; eleven great grandchildren, Holly, Beau, Samantha, Seth, Stefen, Isla, Evertt, Elin, Sutton, Collin, and Kate; and two step-great-grandchildren, Paege and David.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Rosella Jiskoot.

The marriage of Miss Geraldine Menning, daughter of Mrs. Ella Menning of O. C. to Peter Jacob Aberson, son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Aberson of Alton was solemnized in the Trinity Ref. Church of O. C. Thursday evening, Aug. 28 at 8 o'clock. 'The setting for the wedding was colorful gladioli against a background of fernery and candelabra. The single ring ceremony was performed by the Rev. li. Ongna in candlelight. Mrs. Clifford Bogaard played sweet music as the candles were lighted by Mrs. Harvey Vander Pol and Miss Mary Ann Blom, friends of the bride. Mrs. Ralph Menning sang "I Love You Truly " before the ceremony and "Bless This House" at the close. Organ music, beautifully ren dered by Mrs. Bogaard continued throughout the ceremony. The bride entered to the strains of the Chorus from Lohengrin, and was given in marrjage by her uncle, Berc Menning. She was lovely in a white faille gown with net overskirt entrain.
