Rosella Rose Eleanor Jiskoot, 71, George, died Sunday, July 15, at the Good Samaritan Center in George. Services were Wednesday, July 18, at Ebenezer Presbyterian Church in George, with the Reverends Rick Johnson and Donald Jiskoot officiating. Burial was at Evergreen Lawn Cemetery in George, under the direction of Roste Funeral Home in George.
Rose Jiskoot, daughter of Ralph and Ella (Mouw) Menning, was born January 24, 1936, in Newkirk. She attended Newkirk Public School. After her father died, she moved with her mother to Orange City, attending Orange City Public School and graduating from high school in 1953.
She married Wilmer Jiskoot on April 23, 1954, and moved to a farm southwest of George, where they raised three sons. She was a hard-working farm wife, helping out in any way she could to make the farm prosper. She always provided hearty meals for her husband and growing boys. Dessert was a must at the end of each meal. She and her husband moved off the farm and into town in 1993, where she continued to live until May 2007, when she moved to George Good Samaritan Center.
She cherished her family. She loved being with her husband, children and grandchildren. She was a member of Take Off Pounds Sensibly (TOPS) for 30 years, serving in many of the administrative offices throughout the years. She was also an active member of Ebenezer Presbyterian Church.
She was active in the womens group as president, vice president, Secretary/Treasurer and group leader. She taught Sunday School for many years while her boys were growing up.
After the boys grew up, she continued to play the piano for Sunday School and Bible School. She played the organ at Sunday services and for countless weddings and funerals for 35 years. She sang in the choir for many years and when the church got the hand bells, she joined the hand bell choir. When her mother moved into the Good Samaritan Center in George, she volunteered to play the piano for various chapels and hymn sings, and she continued to do so after her mother died.
Along with music, her other passion was gardening, especially growing flowers. Her green thumb beautified our world. She also enjoyed working with her husband on home projects at her own home and at the homes of many others. She enjoyed working at Otter Valley Golf Club south of George with her husband and friends. In her spare time she chronicled her familys activities 1967-91 and later shared those memories in the biweekly column in the local paper.
Survivors include her husband, Wilmer Jiskoot of George; three sons, Leland and Jackie Jiskoot of Boyden; Arlan Jiskoot of Tulsa, Oklahoma; a granddaughter; a grandson; a step granddaughter; a great-granddaughter; and a sister, Geraldine Gerry and Peter Aberson of Alton.
She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Nancy Jiskoot; and an infant niece, Jennifer Jiskoot.
