Jeanette M. Hawes
Jeanette Malloy Hawes, 87, died Sunday, Dec. 9, 2001, after an illness.
She was born in Cheraw, a daughter of the late John Wilson and LouiseMeiklejohn Malloy.
She was a 1935 graduate of Queens College in Charlotte and was a memberof the Chi Omega sorority as well as several other honorary academicsocieties. She has long been active in church and civic affairs and inpast years was a charter member of The Dunes Golf and Beach Club, TheGarden Club and The Riverside Club. As a member of the Peter HorryChapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution, she served onseveral committees and as a regent. She was a member of the First UnitedMethodist Church in Conway, where she was a Sunday school teacher and aformer recording secretary and past president of the United MethodistWomen.
Survivors include a son, Dr. Samuel P. Hawes III and his wife, Lorene, ofMatthews, N.C.; a daughter, Louise Hawes DeLoach and her husband, Harris,of Hartsville; and six grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the residence.
The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at First United Methodist Church inConway. The Revs. John Hipp and Tom Brittain will officiate. Burial willbe in Lakeside Cemetery .
