Notities over Thomas Sanders

ID: I8 Name: Henry BOSWELL NSFX: RW? Title: RW? Sex: M Birth: Abt 1740 in Charles Co.,Maryland _RIN: 19 1 Death: Bef 1810 in Bladen/Columbus County,North Carolina Note:
It appears that Henry Boswell, Sr., was born in either Charles Co., MD or Culpeper Co., Virginia. It appears that his sons preceeded him to Bladen Co., North Carolina and he joined them later.Henry Boswell first appears in the records of Bladen County, NC, in 1765, when he was being sued over a debt and he apparently lost 50 acres of land. It is not clear if that was all the land he had at that time. In 1782, after the Revolution, Henry received two land grants in the part of Bladen County which later became Columbus County. (You will see Boswells born and died in both Bladen and Columbus Counties, not because they moved but because Columbus County was created from part of Bladen County). -----------------------------------DEC 1, 1778 Henery BOSWELL. 200 A W side of White Marsh & W side of Thomas JOHNSON'S new survey & joining David MARLEY'S land #680------------------------------------------------BLADEN COUNTY, NC - DEEDS - Henry Boswell Land Grant No. 119, 23 Oct 1782--------HENRY BOSWELL LAND GRANT NO. 119Bladen, NC 1782Deed Book 1, page 75State of North Carolina No 608 To all to whom these presents shall come greeting Know ye that we for and in consideration of the Sum of fifty Shillings for every hundred acres hereby granted paid unto our treasury by Henry Boswell have given and granted and by these presents do give and grant unto the said Henry Boswell a tract of land containing two hundred acres lying and being in our County of Bladen on the West side of Mosleys Branch containing two hundred acres beginning at a White Oak said Mosleys corner running on said Mosleys line North eighty Degrees East thirty seven chains fifty links to a Stake between a pine and Red oak on Thomas Johnston's linethence on said line North thirty four chains to a stake in said Johnstons corner fifty one chains to a Stake in Savanah then west thirty seven chains to a Stake then South fifty seven chains to the Beginng) Pr* patent dated Octr* the 23rd 1782 [Note: * denotes raised letter.]------------------------------------------------In 1788 Henry gave 100 acres on Marley's Branch to "my son, Thomas Boswell". In 1791 Henry received another land grant of 100 acres. -------------------------------------------------------------- Henry does not appear in the 1810 Columbus County Census.Stephen Boswell, son of Thomas Boswell, grandson of Henry, was apparently the first of the Boswells to migrate from Bladen/Columbus Co. NC to Pike County, Alabama. Others then followed. See notes for Stephen. There are a group of Boswell's living in the Anson Co. North Carolina area during this period and at the time of Henry's birth. He is probably related to this group but this has not been confirmed. The land grants which Henry received might have been for service in the Revolutionary War; he was of the right age and in the right place, but this is also unconfirmed. The National Society, Daughters of the American Revolution, has no record of Henry; this does not mean that he didn't serve but simply no one has applied in his name and presented confirmable records.THERE IS NO DATE ON THIS CENSUS FILE. IT MUST APPLY TO HENRY BOSWELL JR.THE SON OF THIS HENRY.Numbers Name Age Sex Race Profession 551 554 Henry Boswell 63 MJennet Boswell 42 FAvy Boswell 16 FAmos Boswell 13 MAlvin Boswell 9 M-----------------------------------------------------------------BLADEN COUNTY, NC - WILLS - Thomas Sanders, 16 Nov 1776----ÞÞÞ----WILL OF THOMAS SANDERSBladen, NC 1776Deed Book 23, No. 6, Page 6,To all people to whom these presents shall come I Thomas Sanders do send greetings Know ye that I the said Thomas Sanders of Bladen Co. province of N.C. being very sick & weak in body but of perfect mind and memory do hereby for and in consideration fo the love and affection I have and do bear my beloved wife Amilia Sanders have given and granted and by these presents give grant and bequeath unto my said beloved wife all my real and personal estate during her lifetime if she survives me, that is to say all my lands tenements timbers money goods bills bonds amont furniture utensils provisions stock of horses hogs cattle sheep poultry Negroes or any other part or parcel to me belonging not here mentioned with the condition of her paying one shilling sterling to each of these our children they having received their full proportion of the house heretofore viz: Elizabeth Boswell Elizabeth Ellis, Amili Morly, Thomas Browder, and Eley Sanders my daughter-in-law These I hereby make over to my said wife as my free will and gifts as above mentioned together with full power to dispose of the value of twenty pounds proclamation money of said effects in whatever manner shepleases.
