Vardry McBee (1750-87) commanded a company of South Carolina troops. A skirmish was fought near Limestone Springs, his home, and the wounded taken there and cared for by his wife. He was born in Virginia.
Matthew Brunson (1758-81) was a private in a volunteer company of Horse, 1775, commanded by Capt. Matthew Singleton. He was killed in an engagement with the Tories in Clarendon County N. C.
Samuel Bacot (1745-95) served as lieutenant under General Marion. He was born in Charleston; died in Darlington, S. C.
Elias Alexander commanded a regiment in the South Carolina troops. He was born, 1749, in Ireland, and in 1818 was living in Rutherford County, N. C.

Samuel Bacot (1745-95) was imprisoned at Camden, and with thirty captives, while being removed to the “Black Hole,” Charleston, where the smallpox was raging, overcame the guard and escaped. He served in General Marion's brigade. He was born and died in South Carolina.
