They resided at Chestnuts Crossroads and in the Shell community near Conway, SC. They died one week apart and the children have said Bertha died of broken heart. They are buried in Mount Leon Cemetery, near Longs, SC in what is called Chestnuts Crossroads. Joe Luther Gore had his parents and children's caskets exhumed and relocated to that cemetery so they would not be forgotten.
He helped build the Mount Leon Baptist Church at the crossroads and many of his descendants still live in the vicinity and attent the church. he was a well known and respected school teacher and farmer.
